Well, Hallo Thar Battlestar Galactica!

Feb 09, 2009 23:55

Last week I was a sicky. Complete with fever. I am actually very proud of my fever, as I always feel it gives me the green light to fully indulge in the sickness. So, fever established, I lazed around on my couch, snuggly blanket and tea at the ready, and decided to give this show people keep talking about a try. I watched a lot of Battlestar ( Read more... )

Wow.
This is very well thought out and I agree with the majority of it.

I have actually never really considered that Baltar would die. I think it's b/c I don't necessarily connect him with Snape and Vader. Rather, he seems to me to be (a) Malfoy: opportunistic and survivalist at all costs. But he does have those moments of heroism and self-realization, so maybe you're right.

This is a fantastic, insightful post. I think watching it all in one fell swoop (really, really fell, by the way--that can't have been a restful week) really gives you a great perspective on the larger arc. FWIW, I think you're right. This isn't a tragedy. But it's not a comedy (in Shakespearean terms), either. It's a problem play crossed with a history.

only problem with your final guesses, Kara Thrace...a couple of Hybrids now have made it clear, she is the Harbinger of Death, she'll lead Humanity to its End and Leoben's reaction to finding Kara's body on Earth was telling.

Whatever the current Kara Thrace is , she isn't the same being who came to Earth, then there's also the whole God Angle the series has made into a theme, especially around the Cylons and Baltar. Remember RAZOR; This has all happened before and will happen again....

still, good thoughts you have here about theme and story structure :), I agree with a lot of it, though I think Admiral Adama does die, pry with Laura to replace the original Adama death as best death scene eva on TV ;)

Once again, you grace us with a thoughtful and in-depth discussion of things that most people cannot put into words. :)

Oh, and I tried that brownie recipe - WIN!! Although I also added half a cup of melted peanut butter, just because I like peanut butter.

AND, because I'm quite shocked I haven't insisted you do this before now, if you're not already a forum member at www.potterficforum.com you must go there post haste and register. It's the forum site for the Potter Fic Weekly/Poufwa Exchange podcasts, for which I am a host.

Oh, yay, I'm so glad you're on board!

I definitely agree that they are heading toward a hopeful ending that includes a permanent home and true resolution between the Cylons and Humans...one that means that eventually they probably won't be separate blood lines at all.

As far as the specific predictions, I think that rather than co-presidents like you propose, we'll have Lee in that role and a Cylon at the head of the military.
