Ben centric, gen, rated PG, around 200 words
Live around people day in and day out and you will not discern the little physical changes that occur slowly but surely. But everyone ages none the less and one day it hits you.
Annie is no longer a little girl.

Dad looks just like Grand-Pa did.
It takes him several years to notice but one day it punches Ben square in the gut: for as loon as he's known him, Richard didn't age.
At all.
From then, on their clandestine rendez-vous, Ben scrutinizes Richard like a hawk. Tries to find new crow feet around his mouth or eyes. A receding hair line. Anything. One day, he sneaks in Richard's hut and searches through his belongings, looking for hair dye. He doesn't find any.
Clearly the Island protects Richard, and Ben is thrilled at first. If he does what is needed, he'll have eternal youth too. He'll be special.
When Ben puts on the gas mask and watches his father die, along with other people that called him family, he knows he just sacrificed his soul to the Island. There is nothing more he can do and he has proved himself worthy.

Ben shatters the mirror the day he sees a new wrinkle, livid with rage.
Richard is going to pay.
He's taking over.
