With canon as unraveled as it can be, I'm putting my foot down on some of Kizna's past, remembered and unremembered, as well as her present. This is also information compilation on amnesia, because mock-diagnosing is interesting.

If anyone familiar with the canon wants to hash this out with me, I'd appreciate it. I haven't really heard too many theories on the mysteries of Candidate for Goddess.

Kizna became deaf when she fell out of the tree as a child. She lived in the colony she was born in with her parents and had been friends with Crow for a long time.

She had a happy childhood even if it wasn't exceptional in any way. She was less outspoken than she is now as well as shy, but remains the same at the core.

Kizna lost her memories/developed amnesia when she was from an explosion that hurt her head in the war. Crow may have been involved as a soldier in the war, but he was, at least, present for this.

She bears no scars or physical signs of having been involved with whatever war she was a part of.

Her parents died around the same time she got hurt the second time, considering her unorthodox treatment later on. (Crow did not separate her from her family, basically. It was protective, not harmful.) She was an only child.

There is around a fifty year gap from losing her memories to waking up that she does not remember/was not conscious for. Her growth was halted for that period, but resumed when she woke up.

Considering the sophistication in the engineering of Zero, Teela, and Hiead, Kizna gained her ears very early on before they were created or around the same time as Teela. Crow was involved in this. ("I didn't have the power to heal her then." Then referring to when she fell, so Kizna was deaf before she developed amnesia.)

The song Kizna, Zero, and Kozue know was created by Crow. He created it after she developed amnesia as a way of finding him. Tangentially, Crow is Zero's father.

Kizna has no abilities related to the godmod that the triumvirate has. She can not speak or resonate with the Godesses, has no piloting prowess, or anything of that nature. Her skill in repairing is her own.

The memories Kizna has now began at the hospital she woke up in. She was found by the staff with her name and no other form of identification, then she was diagnosed and treated. Kizna remained there for a few months before applying to G.O.A.

Kizna Towryk is her real name.

While in the hospital, Kizna dyed her hair and developed her personality that didn't fully blossom until pushed on by the girls.

By Earth's calendar, she woke up sometime in September though her false birthday is in May. She will be three years old in memory in September. Consequently, Kizna trained for two years before meeting Zero.

Zero and Kizna becoming partners was not coincidental.

Kizna doesn't count time in years; she counts by months.

One of the nurses at the hospital gave her candy which started her addiction. She ate it compulsively while she was there.

The girls were the ones who gave Kizna her birthday when they realized she'd been with them for over a year, but hadn't celebrated it.

Kizna got reamed when she cut her pants leg off, but she refused to wear the proper uniform.

She has no sense of gender awareness. She makes small distinctions between the sexes, but forgets consistently that she is a girl. Likewise, Kizna has no body consciousness in the usual sense.

Everything she owns is very important to her, and she takes very good care of it. (In camp she has one set of each of her uniforms, two dresses, a jacket, a bathing suit, a vase, pictures from Ritsuka, a pearl bracelet from Zidane, a flower bracelet from Makoto, a silver necklace from Livio, picture frames from Yzak.)

Kizna still doesn't eat meat in camp. She gets sick when she does, and doesn't like the idea of animals being killed for food.

She has nightmares that she's back at the hospital, lost and alone again. It always takes her a few minutes to settle down after that.

Retrograde Amnesia: A form of amnesia where someone will be unable to recall events that occurred before the onset of amnesia. ...Caused by trauma that results in brain injury.

Ding ding ding.

Psychogenic Amnesia: Also known as functional or dissociative amnesia... Abnormal memory functioning in the absence of structural brain damage... In most cases, patients lose their autobiographical memory and personal identity even though they are able to learn new information and perform everyday functions normally. ...Clinically, psychogenic amnesia is characterized by the loss of the ability to retrieve stored memory without having damages to the brain while organic amnesia is characterized by damages to the medial or anterior temporal and/or prefrontal regions caused by stroke, traumatic brain injury.

It's the only functioning form of amnesia despite the clash over trauma and psychological causes. Read: It's a plot-device, and the cause is the only hiccup in diagnosis. It is caused by those involvement with war, though. So, the exact cause may be a mystery in Kizna.

Dissociative Amnesia: With dissociative amnesia, the memories still exist but are deeply buried within the person’s mind and cannot be recalled. However, the memories might resurface on their own or after being triggered by something in the person’s surroundings.

Kizna does get triggered by Zero's profile which looks similar to Crow's. So, she does have the memories with her rather than having them wiped or altered which is what appears to happened to most of the candidates.

Doug Bruce: A case similar to Kizna's.

New Man: More on Doug Bruce's story with a focus on the disjoint of who he was and who he is. While, Kizna has nearly the same personality, she still has a large disassociation with her past, at least in the form of her appearance.
