Just a comment I wanted to save...
Left this comment on smithing_chick's Facebook page and decided it was a sentiment I wanted to save here:
There's an equivalence betw left and right in the presence of an echo chamber in the media. I find Keith Olbermann very tiresome a lot of the time and most of the hosts on Air America are just plain unlistenable. (Which is why I don't bother to listen anymore.)
But...
The essential difference (and this was true of the worst excesses of the counterculture in my youth) is that the radical right is fed by ideologies of "difference" (which, it seems to me leads inevitably to ideologies of "superiority") and the radical left is fed by ideologies of "commonality" (which, at worst, leads to demonization of the acts of hierarchies, not so much of individuals).
