I was in the Social Security office this morning, getting a new card. Two old ladies sitting next to me, filling out their applications, one asks, "If I'm Caucasian and Pacific Islander, do I check both boxes or do they just assume the darker race wins

both cats really belong to roommate. it's CA's totally fascist hair laws which will be most responsible for my staying put (and laziness, and my lease, and the expense, and and and...)

CA won't recognize hair licenses from other states, even if you've been working for years in a high-end salon (i suppose there are loopholes for the super high-end sleb-scissors crew). they don't offer hair-only licenses either: you've gotta do the whole cosmetology enchilada or nada. and the licensing exam is supposedly in another, older technical language entirely from what other states have adopted, so even experienced out-of-state hairdressers have to learn an entirely new language without necessarily learning new skillZor.

this could be wrong, but it is what several professionals have told me.
