I was in the Social Security office this morning, getting a new card. Two old ladies sitting next to me, filling out their applications, one asks, "If I'm Caucasian and Pacific Islander, do I check both boxes or do they just assume the darker race wins?"

More cops in the hood last night, going through the neighbor's front yard with flashlights. And yesterday afternoon I followed a blood trail on the sidewalk to a big scene: couple of crackies in handcuffs, cops, eyewitnesses, fire engines. This summer's going to be FUN FUN FUN.
