Watched last night: pilots of Fringe and True Blood; Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, featuring one of those incredibly graphic depictions of (18th c. specific) peasant life that make me vividly, eternally, and even ecstatically grateful not to have been alive then, with
naeelah; last season's finale of House, that, yes, I just got around to watching; and Strictly Ballroom, which I now love to pieces and can't figure out why I've never watched it before.
I don't know how many of you watch
vintagephoto, but I just have to point out
this fantastic post of huge, high-res, spectacularly in color Library of Congress photos of working women during WWII (eta: oh, hey, there are some guys at the end of the post, too). Now, I love Band of Brothers, and this is kind of an apples and oranges comparison/association, and while it is beautifully and artistically shot, I have to say that, for me, its choice of washed-out/slightly-sepia-toned color palette lends itself to creating this quasi-nostalgic(?) distance that is totally eradicated in the VP LoC photos. They're so wonderfully lush and vivid and have such a superbly real immediacy.
