In June 1983, right after my brother was born, my father decided it was time for the family to have a larger and more modern car. I remember going with my father to all the dealers in our area and he finally chose the most modern of the B segment cars available. I even remember how much money he paid for that car.

My father's been finally diagnosed. He had to have a colonoscopy done to reveal that he's got diverticulitis (remarkably, what Fidel Castro had in 2007). So since he's been on antibiotics for about 10 days, he's leaving the hospital today, with some additional medication and a very severe diet at least for 6 months.

So I'm back in Barcelona after visiting my dad in the Hospital. He's ok, although he's still with some temperature. I had an ok time except for my dad's wife. I can't stand her. She was playing Florence Nittingale with him all the time. Even putting cream on his feet in front of me, like showing off how my dad was being taken care. She even offered ( Read more... )

So I have dad in a Hospital named Arnau de Vilanova. It's in a recently developed area of the city which hosts a horrible huge sculpture that is a replica of the Dama de Elche, although I think it's a parody. It's also where the new stadium for the city's largest football team, Valencia CF is being built. The thing is already costing twice as much ( Read more... )

Last Saturday I had a long conversation with Paco, my father. He's 60. Until last Wednesday, he was working as a metallurgic worker/welder for a small workshop in the Valencia area. My dad had yesterday his cornea transplant in http://www.clinicabaviera.com/. He might have got it for free in the Social Security but the waiting list was almost 2 years.

The surgery went ok, but they are not sure of how much sight he will recover. There was more damaged tissue. I decided to take a pic of the two of us
