In June 1983, right after my brother was born, my father decided it was time for the family to have a larger and more modern car. When I first saw the picture in your entry (before reading....) I initially thought this car was a VW Derby, basically a Polo with a boot. I'd guess this car and the Derby/Polo would've been direct competitors at the time, Xavi?

To American eyes, both the Derby and this Corsa would appear to be slightly smaller Jettas.

Can you identify what the car is just to the front? I'm curious because the bumper and reversing light look familiar, but I can't place it.... :(

Well, at the time, it was the only two-door + trunk available. The Polo Classic was introduced to Spain just later... Remember that Spain joined the EEC in 1986, so right before, our market was somewhat different.

I can't identify the car in front. They have Austrian registration plates.

Ok, tried the following cars without success, although I will have to check with a German friend: Opel Kadett, Opel Ascona, Opel Diplomat, Ford Taunus...

I think Bill is right! Look about 2/3 of the way down this page at the 1967-68 Taunus!
