Wow
My father grew up in New Orleans and much of his family lives there. I called him today to see how he's doing and he is trying to find a current picture of his old neighborhood to see how bad the damage is. Does anybody know how often Google Earth is updated? Since he's telling me that it's walking distance from the school that my cousin was going to attend for music this year I'm not sure that he wants to look. My dad had actually suggested my cousin rent out the apartment in the house they used to live in.
My uncle and my cousin drove to New Orleans from California to get him settled into school. They have now packed up and are slowly making their way back, stopping at my dad's house in Phoenix as he is the nearest relative with Internet and phone. My cousin is being given tuition for any college in the United States as he will obviously not be attending in New Orleans. Apparently most students are being given tuition to any nearby college or equivalent college for their major. I hope they can rebuild and open up again.
I wish I had been to visit New Orleans at some point. I will never know it as my father knew it growing up.
In other news, today is my first day off and Nathan's second day of school. Mr. Independent didn't even seem to care that I came with him to the bus stop to say goodbye. It was more like "Are you still here Mom? I'm leaving for school. Bye." He actually told me to go home because he was going bye bye without me.
