ok so it's probably better to describe what its like, rather than what it is.
prague is awesome. it has a distinct odor (i realize this last night when i was smelling my shirts to see which ones could be salvaged again before heading to the laundromat), not unlike an old pub, musty with cigarettes, alcohol, dogs, weed, and heavy cooking.
ive had some crazy nights here, and the nightlife is awesome, incomparable to new paltz of course, but different. theres a scene for everyone, and thats where my problem is. the biggest disappointment of this place happens to be the americans. i love prague as i mentioned, but the people in my program sort of..well, suck. my suitemates are cool, but theyre also too "american" for me. they go to mcdonalds, try to find a cheap gym everyday (and fail), sleep too much, cant cook food for their life, are loud, drunk, obnoxious, rude, piss on history (literally), get into drunken fights with each other, ect. so i sort of awkwardly fit in, as i always do with those type of people. im not used to wearing dress shits, cologne, and partying til 6am. im used to basement shows in new paltz, sweaty people in flannel shirts with cheap beer, weed, drugs, and an assortment of other things. i just dont fit in a lot i guess. fortunately, i do have frannie who feels my plight, and this girl monica who is a perfect new paltz fit-in from buffalo. kyles friend, kevin, is also a cool guy, but he seems to want to follow the crowd more often than not. a lot of people here are just spoiled, rich, and jappy, big surprise, i thought it would be easier to meet people, instead everyones really cliquey and judgemental. i thought maybe it was me at first, but other people noticed it too. oh well, im hoping when classes start tomorrow things will get better. random side note because i know ill forget to write it, but last night me kevin and frannie went to A proc ne, a bar behind the dorm, and had a few beers, and the bartender and some of their friends all got into a drunken fight and started beating the crap out of each other, knocking over a fridge, tables, chairs, glasses, it was really funny but awkward to watch since there were only a few of us in the bar anyway.
so ya, i havent put my foot down where i want to yet in terms of friends and stuff, but i decided on saturday, minus puking my brains out, that i can meet people, i just need to be more forceful and less passive. sometimes i let people come to me, but im starting to learn a more about initiative.
