I feel bad for the people living in Cuba and the carribean area. They keep getting relentlessly slammed.
I am back in New Orleans now. No damage to my apartment, no damage to Aaron's family's home, and it only took me three days to recover from the drive back. I'm still feeling sleepy and almost sickly. I guess I get more stressed out from evacuating than I thought.
Aaron's Aunt Alana is a sweetheart, and I really enjoyed all his cousins and relatives. I had a good time.
However, I would be willing to bet that New Orleans will have to evacuate once again this week with Hurricane Ike. It's headed towards the Texas coast right now, but considering how bad southern Louisiana was slammed, I doubt they'd take their chances. I don't even want to think about it. I am only just now, today, starting to resume my normal life after Gustav disrupted my plans for over a week. At least I'm getting paid for the week of work I missed, but I feel really bad for the people who won't get reimbursed for evacuating. Even with still getting paid, I'm out major bucks due to all the driving and filling up on gas, not to mention all the groceries that had to be thrown out. It's not like I've got tons to spare.
On a more positive note, let's talk fruit. I had some of the best fruit this past week at the Souvs' place. I think I actually lost a couple of pounds because I kept reaching for the watermelon, cantelope, and peaches over the potato chips and cookies that were sitting around. Aaron's aunt saw how much I loved it and sent me home with a bag of sliced watermelon as well as a bag of the coffee she made in the morning which I also loved. What a sweet lady.
I am also researching, trying to find a cheap gym membership.... I want it to have a pool. I hate wearing a bathing suit, but I love swimming, one of the few exercises I actually like. I don't want to go to Loyola's gym because the hours aren't great, plus it's further away from me now that I've moved. Anyone know of a gym with a pool that's near the lower garden district?
Here's hoping to no more hurricanes.
