Evacuation

Aaron and I woke up early on Saturday to pack up as much as we could. It was a completely stressful time. Then we went over to the Westbank to help his parents pack up. We finally finished up and fell asleep for three hours. Then we got up and were on the road by 2:00 a.m..... what usually takes us 20 minutes to get to Slidell took us over 4 hours, my cat yowling the whole time, scared and hyperventillating. Eight year old chatty Raychelle was my passenger, Aaron's niece, and she played car games with me. The cat, naturally in his fright, pooped and peed in his cage. We couldn't stop until we reached Mississippi. I threw out the rug in his cage when we stopped at 8 a.m. I didn't put him back in because he found a hiding place in the trunk. I figured he'd be better there than in his cage so I left his litter box on the seat where he could find it.

Well, it was bumper to bumper all the way through Alabama. We finally made it to Chattanooga, usually no more than an 8 hour drive, at 1 a.m. this morning. We had been driving for 23 hours. It was miserable.

I'm still exhausted and sore today, not having gotten more than 7 hours of sleep.

At least I'm safe, with Aaron and his entire family and relatives. We're going to head back to New Orleans on Wednesday. I haven't been able to pay attention to the news today, but I hear that New Orleans didn't get it TOO bad. So hopefully I'll have a flood free apartment to go home to. I dread having to put the cat back in the car. Ugh.
