It's puppy love!

After having a hectic schedule for the past couple of weeks (I am yet to catch up with all your LJ’s), I finally got a chance to unwind and also use my camera in what seems like ages.  The little one you see here is Molly.  She is a one-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel.  Molly always reminds me of Elsa as a puppy, cute and cuddly though Elsa was a much bigger puppy at age one.

Last Friday, Molly came up to our place to get some playtime with Elsa.  Molly tried very hard to get Elsa to play, which she eventually did for maybe 10-15 minutes.  Elsa likes playing more with dogs her size than the little ones….. she invariably considers all of them as puppies I guess.  After the 10-15 minutes short playtime, Elsa went back to lazing around in the sun.  But Molly, was not the one to give up.  She tried to get her to play, when she didn’t, Molly decided to go and lay down next to her.  In fact, it was very sweet to see her go and lay down on one of Elsa’s stretched paws and Elsa gently laid her other paw over her.  It was a very sweet moment.

Molly is still a puppy and she does seem to sleep quite a bit in between her playtime.  She spotted the sun shining on Elsa’s bed, so she decided to make herself comfortable on Elsa’s bed.  She got up promptly and flopped down right in the middle of the bed, got into a good sleeping position and within no time, her cute little round eyes were shutting close.

Elsa is very generous when it comes to sharing her stuff with the other dogs, but all the same she dosen’t want to give up her rights over things all together.  She watched Molly for a bit and then shifted her place next to the bed but on carpet with just her head resting on ‘her’ bed.  It was hilarious to watch her do this and I was wondering what goes on in a dog’s mind to make them do things like this.  It would be interesting to learn their thoughts.

No sooner did Elsa put her head down, that Molly started licking her.  There was so much of affection between the two of them.  Obviously, Molly acknowledges that Elsa is an older dog and maybe sees her mother she hardly knew for 6 weeks before she was sent to her present home.  Elsa on the other hand, let Molly lick her and do stuff for a while, before she gently lay a paw on her and slowly pushed her away - almost like a mother saying that it was enough now.  They seemed to have some kind of understanding and there was Molly lying down again.

I haven’t seen Elsa jealous in a very long time.  She was though, when I was cuddling up Molly and talking to her.  Elsa didn’t want to be left out and kept nudging me from one end.  So I had to pet both of them.

Tell me… wouldn’t you cuddle up a puppy who looks as sweet as her?
