Gor Frakking Rammit....

So I've been without computer for almost three months now. July 12th for those keeping score at home.

The process went thusly...

Bought shiny new upgrade newtech parts.

Installed shiny newtech parts.

Box sits quietly. Too quietly. Tomb quietly.

Slight problem. Well two, I've not got replacement/swapout parts to test the newbies as they are, as previously specified, newtech. Everything is next generation from my last parts. Also, I've spent all my money on parts and don't have any for a diagnostic.

So I call up my friend RJ who works for the Geek Squad. I take the box over to his house and leave it with him. He tells me he's all but certain it's the RAM, so I save for a couple weeks and get new RAM. Fuckall. So then, he takes my power supply into work and tests it. Says the PS is bad. Two weeks later, new PS is bought. Still not working. I'm starting to suspect the mobo he sold me is beat. He says probably not. So I leave the box with him and tell him to let me know what he finds out. I should note that I only can get to his house once every two weeks because at the time gas is 4 fucking dollars a gallon. In the meantime he gets a new girlfriend. So every time I call him he "just hasn't had time."

Ok, I know how it is with new meat so I don't worry about it. Besides, he's not charging me anything so what can I say, right? I ask him if he can run it to a mutual friend who also does PC repair who is willing to look at it. But... he just doesn't have time.

For fucks' sakes...

So I go over and get it now that gas isn't worth more than gold bullion and bring it home, thinking that maybe I could suss it out with the loaner puter I got from my brother. I took my PC over put together in a mostly organised fashion. What I got back was a PC box with cables hanging out and unconnected, a box of other parts like sound card etc that weren't even in the case, and some parts missing entirely, like the original 4 gigs of RAM that just vanished while his roomies were moving out.

I give up. I'm going to swallow my pride and take it to a shop for a diagnose, if not repair. If I couldn't figure out my fuckups I damn sure can't figure out his on top of them.

*sigh*

But I bet it's the motherboard after all.
