Well, it is all over but the shouting. The Final final Pink Slips say I has got no position for the 2009-2010 school year.
The district has decided that whatever money comes from the stimulus funding will fill gaps left from the ballot initiative, so none of the teachers whose positions depended on those funding sources will be covered.
While we were commiserating today, I realized just how many years I have been fighting for excellence in education for the normal, non-special students.
As a parent: PFC Treasurer fundraised to pay for a computer lab, computer teacher and science lab and science teacher (the district would not supply), arguing against literature based fuzzy math curriculum and fighting the canceling of elementary instrumental music programs (they have tried that 3 times before now and I was around for all of them.)
As a teacher: grantwriting to create afterschool music, grantwriting to support my regular school programs, soliciting donations to supplement our annual $200.00 program budget ($200.00 divided by 263 students = $.76 per child), soliciting donations to supply underprivileged students with instruments . . .
18 years. I'm tired.
