The Great Blackout of 2007

Sep 28, 2007 17:04

Today, Oxford Street and had a powercut.

I was chatting rubbish to someone and thought a lightbulb had blown, then went back to look at my computer and the screen was dead. Then went outside to see people spilling out of edit suitets shouting "what the fuck??". Alarms were blaring all down the road and the traffic lights (the ones at the main tottenham court road/charing cross/oxford st crossing) turned themselves off which is pretty scary, especially when it's raining.

Turns out most of Soho got caught in it, so there's blatantly going to be a black spot in television sometime soon with just a title screen saying "sorry, this program was lost in the great blackout of 2007" with that chick and her clown doll. Maybe.

It was much like the Blitz (I imagine... but without the fear, bombs or death) with everyone gathering in reception to watch the outside world, drink tea (the urn was still full of hot water), eat biscuits and generally enjoy not having to do any work. When all the store alarms stopped going off, it all got much less annoying too.
