I liked this one quite a lot - perfect casting of all the JSA people, even the bit parts like Sylvester were spot-on.
However, this being SV, I always have a few nitpicks!
Checkmate' involvement was also a good way to involve Lois in to the thick of things. I liked her scenes with Waller and Tess - but the scene where she tells Clark what she found out felt repetitive. We, the audience, already have this information. IMO, it would have been better if Clark had one half of the story (JSA), while Lois pursued the other half (Waller)
It's terrific to see the latter back with his powers again and really, in a somewhat fitting way it comes full circle with him, if you will. He made a sacrifice earlier to save a fellow hero (Clark) and now another hero makes a sacrifice to save him. Phil Morris is so amazing - his "cookies!" line was my single favourite moment. And you-re right - the symmetry of MM saving Clark, then being saved by Fate, is really lovely.
And while I was OK with Oliver in the ep, I really was - I'm sorry, but I still

Terrific review! I enjoyed the episode too - a lot - for most of the same reasons you do, despite the Clark quibbles I share. As for the Hawkman / GA interaction, I just assume Hawkman knew somehow about Ollie shooting Clark in the back last year, not to mention the constant binging, and that would be totally enough to justify his attitude. Anyways, anyone who calls Ollie a jackass is in my good graces.
Oh, and I could share a spoiler about something you said here but you're obviously spoiler free so I'll restrain myself.
My personal opinion is that the triangle-for-two concept doesn't really work for our SV!Clois, so in that sense, I'm hoping it isn't really an angle that's reintroduced anytime soon again.

Ahh! Heh, now I'm completely curious as hell. OK, don't tell me the actual spoiler, but just tell me this - good spoiler or not so good?

There's such a divide here with how I feel about the ep.
