The Darjeeling Limited And Other Important Things.

I saw The Darjeeling Limited tonight by myself--I'm not sure if I liked the film, or not. It was...well, maybe I wasn't in the right mind for it. To say it was dark would be like saying Hitler wasn't the nicest person. Just, sheesh. There should be warnings for these kind of films.

What bothered me was that I couldn't get over that these weird Wes Anderson characters were in a much more "real" setting than before, and it just didn't work for me. I liked all of the characters, I symphathized with them, and it felt like they were real brothers, but having them wander about an Indian market threw me off. It was some of the point, I know, but I'm so used to seeing his films act out as a stage-play, and this...didn't (even though it wanted to).

And, I didn't really like the cameos by all of his players: Bill Murray, Angelica Houston and Pagoda. I love them all too much to have them in the film for 30 seconds. Don't tease me like that!

Loved the last five minutes. Classic Wes Anderson, but I still adore it. He could do an entire film of slow-motion scenes set to British music from the 60's and 70's, and I'd see it. Probably more than once. And then buy it on DVD. Criterion edition.

On a more shallow end, can we be seeing more Adrian Brody nao? Plz? He was pretty pretty pretty.

I think I'm going to be spending all of next summer in Norway, attending the International Summer School at the University of Oslo (what a mouthful!). I'm nearly finished with my application (all one page of it), and I think it will be fun? It finishes at the beginning of August, but alas, "our" wedding isn't until the 23rd, so I might be stuck there until September. Maybe I'll jet off somewhere else. My parents have decided I am now allowed to travel by myself, so that's nice. Anyone want to go to Jeju Island with me? : D
