I'm so confused. I've been struggling for the past week, trying to find a class to replace Postwar Japan in my class schedule next quarter. Not that I don't want to take the course, in actuality, I desperately want to take it; everything about the subject fascinates me (and it knocks off a requirement for my major), but the time it's held sucks. Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:30. Meaning, that I would get home between 6 and 7 pm on those days. It also traps me into having but one class on Fridays, so that I'm really not going to want to attend class that day (in this manner, living at home will be useful as I'll most certainly be lectured if I skip).
Should I keep trying to get into something else? There's four or five other history classes that would fit in my schedule (if I got the add code to register for them). The description of Postwar Japan does sound lovely though...This course studies Japan's post-World War II experience and gives considerable emphasis to US-Japan relations. It begins with the American decision to use the atomic bomb and the Japanese decision to surrender. It continues with consideration of the American occupation of Japan, Japan's formation of a new national purpose concentrating on economics, the mechanisms of rapid economic growth, postwar nationalism, the US-Japan alliance, development of Japanese-style democracy, the values of middle-class Japan, and Japan's troubles in the post-Cold War era, the growing concerns over tensions on the Korean peninsula, and the rise of China.
