I agree---SPOILER---flaming_rabbitsJuly 19 2004, 12:23:36 UTC
The beginning and end are tied together.
Asimov Solenson was a fleeing member of the Syndicate, the red-eyed coyote with his cowgirl tried to escape to Mars and you saw how Spike responded to her when he found out what they were trying to do and who they were. He was against the idea, and then you saw how that episode ended, what happened to the two fleers.
They were running and Spike never liked to run after that first attempt with Julia failed.
So instead of doing what got the first episode's characters killed, he chose to end it the right way. Himself. I also don't think he could leave Vicious being the leader of the Syndicate. Not after all that had happened to him, Julia, and to his friends who were killed..
I think it was true love.
I just wonder if Julia didn't die, would Spike have made it so he lived?
Even with that...you don't actually know if he dies or not. He has seemed to die in Jupiter Jazz part II even, but he didn't. That could have been foreshadowing for RFB part II in two different senses. 1. He does die. 2. Or he repeats what happened in RFB and doesn't actually die. And how he found to be wearing slightly altered clothing, an extra trench coat and that extra jacket in the half mark of the series and at the very end. It just ties together.
I love how it ended, so mysterious like the rest of the series.

wow! you're comment on asteroid blues makes so much sense... even the word "blues" is used twice! this makes much more sense now... yes... i like to believe it was true love too... deep down i am a true romantic... and i should learn to say "bah" to the psycho thriller theories that come along every once in awhile. :p
"I just wonder if Julia didn't die, would Spike have made it so he lived?"
good point.. spike has survived numerous bullet wounds, fallen out of buildings, held his breath and floated through space without his eye balls popping out... i like to think the memory of julia was the only thing keeping him alive, and i would imagine his fatalystic mentality turned suicidal at her death...

"They were running and Spike never liked to run after that first attempt with Julia failed."
You know that's very interesting, and I had never thought about it that way before. Huh. So do you think he never had any intention of running away with Julia the second time they met. Cause I always just kind of assumed that was what would have happened if they hadn't seen Annie all shot up.
Re: I agree---SPOILER---flaming_rabbitsJuly 22 2004, 23:26:43 UTC
I think that he wanted to go away to Mars but not run away from anything. Like, he had unfinished business with Vicious and, I think, he was going to finish that before he left. Otherwise he would have left Vicious being the leader of the Sydicate.
He might have said 'fuck it' and gone if he didn't see Annie...but it was kind of like the hair that broke the camels back in my opinion.
But he knew they were already there, when they got there..and why'd he go there instead of just...running?
All in all...I think he would have stayed and ended things first.

It is so incredible that I find you here. I read it all and didn't see you, at first. And now I notice who wrote this. And the reason I am reading all this is because I'm searching for YOU. The last piece of the puzzle that will take me to you. The final confrontation brought me here. And there you were. Well, not you, but ancient memories of you. Things you once said and now echo through my soul as I dive. Green bird all the way, Julia.
