Rinkle: The Intrepid Edition!

So the Intrepid. I was there in 2006... since then they closed it, realized it was buried in the mud, finally unstuck it, did massive renovations, redid the pier it is on and brought it back and reopened it. Then they got the simulator shuttle and realized the pier can't hold it, barged 3 old war planes Upstate, made room for the shuttle shell, flew the shuttle up from FL, barged it from JFK and then craned it to the flight deck and are now building the bubble to encase it. The whole shuttle transpo from FL to the deck of the Intrepid? COST OVER NINE MILLION DOLLARS... Yeah, you read that right... over $9,000,000 for move the shell to NYC. Crazy.

Anyway! It was interesting to see all the changes made... like the MASSIVE shift of focus off of the USS Intrepid's WWII history to more of it's more recent history. Which, to me, was slightly sad. We watched a short movie, had a short tour of the anchor room, then roamed. Oh. First we toured the USS Growler... a submarine.

First a link to the whole album!

Twin and Rinkle were plotting to take over Science Education all over the world!

Missile!

This trip I focused on a lot of the signs on the aircraft. HOW does one read this crap if it is on the OUTSIDE of the plane?!

Chopper tails with NYC in the background

Going up to the 2 bridges on the Intrepid had these mirrors and the reflections were cool!

This ship isn't from the 40's and 50's. Nope Nope.

In case you are in a gas attack! Now you might survive!

I thought Red Phones were like the bat phone... but this one has no security!

Torpedoes AWAY! (USS Growler)

LEGO 1:40 scale of Intrepid!

Good! the scallywag is off the ship!

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the ship...
