picspam: favorite scene (the black donnelly's)

Apr 21, 2009 23:44

Made for picspammy's most recent challenge, favorite tv/movie scenes.

I love The Black Donnelly's! It was inventive, original and creative. I was seriously upset after it was cancelled after only 13 episodes. However, I still love to watch it and had to picspam it! I chose the last scene of the debut episode because it's pivitol to the entire series, the whole reason for the show.

Tommy: "Where are you going?"
Kevin: "Wherever you are."

(narrating) Joey: "Tommy could drive anything. Before he became Mother Teresa, he had a big time penchant for joy riding."

(narrating) Joey "Ice Cream": "I was the only one who saw him; the only one who knew it was Tommy driving the car. And to this day, it's the one thing I've never told anybody. I'm ashamed to be telling you now."

(narrating) Joey "Ice Cream": "Tommy became everything he never wanted. And, whether he realized it or not, with Huey dead, Tommy'd just taken over the neighborhood… and he was gonna have to defend it."

Full Recap from tv.com
The episode opens with police interrogating "Joey Ice Cream" asking about the bodies' whereabouts. They offer him solitary vs. general population for his story.

Joey cracks and begins to recount a story from his childhood about the Donnelly Brothers Kevin, Sean, Jimmy and Tommy. Along with the brothers, there is Jenny who has always been hanging around the brothers. The episode is done with Joey narrating in a voiceover. He starts, stops, and changes his story a couple times changing a few of the facts before revealing what he calls the moment that changed Jimmy's life.
When they were younger a car ran over and shattered one of Jimmy's legs. Joey states that the moment changed Jimmy's life but not for a long time and not in the way we would think. He goes on to declare that he always wanted brothers like that.
Joey fast forwards the story, moving to 2005 and he arrives at the Firecracker Lounge for a wake. Jimmy won the bar the year before in a crap game, it came with a rotting floor and huge tax lien, the previous owner swearing he didn't lose on purpose.
Kevin seems to have lost money in a bet, it's said he considered himself lucky even though he never won. Sean is the baby, everyone loves Sean, especially women, which is why the others never left Sean alone with their woman. Tommy is trying to figure out how much Kevin owes on his bet.
Jenny is seen, Joey says she married a school teacher who disappeared for robbing drug dealers to pay his student loans. He went into hiding and someone stuffed him into an oil drum and no one had the heart to tell Jenny.
Jenny and Tommy make small talk until a cop named Francis shows up asking about a stolen truck full of shirts, telling Tommy they believe Jimmy took it.
Tommy asks Jimmy about the truck which of course, Jimmy denies having knowledge of. A man beats on the jukebox and is yelled at by Jimmy. Joey is heard to say in the voiceover "The Irish have always been victims of negative stereotyping. I mean people think we're all drunks and brawlers. And sometimes it makes you so mad all you want to do is get drunk and punch somebody!" A barfight breaks out. The brothers escape into the alley, where there happens to be a stolen truck.
The brother's go to deliver the stolen goods only to discover the shirts were stolen from the truck while it was in their alley. Kevin has to find another way to get the four thousand he owes. Jimmy mentions that he heard about some guys who stole an Italian. Tommy separates from his brothers.
Kevin owed the money to a bookie named "Louie Downtown" who ran the book for Sal Minetta. Since Kevin was short, Sean and Kevin had to go and ask for more time. They took Jimmy along in case Louie didn't take the news too well. Joey's narration states that the boys' father was beaten in younger years by an Italian while Jimmy was in the car.
Tommy is seen on campus walking with a girl he has had a crush on for three months. He sees "Huey Mulligan" who runs the Irish side of town. Huey tells Tommy about the kidnapping of Louie Downtown. Tommy has the girl take him to the Firecracker Lounge to see his brothers. He is so distracted he asks his brother Sean to watch the girl.
Kevin tells Tommy they went down to see Louie with goodness in their hearts and is sure they weren't seen because they wore masks. Tommy wants to release Louie and goes to find Jimmy. Sean is seen making out with the girl and Tommy tells Sean to go home and for her to go back to school.
Louie has gotten away and it's up to Tommy to clean up Jimmy's mess. He chases Louie down catching him again. Sal is seen on the phone and his right hand man, Nicky, arrives for an update as Sal is told it might be the Donnelly brothers. The ransom is thirty thousand. Nicky tells Sal he believes Huey is losing his grip on the neighborhood. Sal's concern is to get his nephew Louis back and for no one to do anything until that happens.
Tommy is at the diner that Jenny works at when Francis enters telling him there was witness to Jimmy robbing the truck earlier that morning. The witness saw three of them, so the cop tells Tommy that Jimmy needs to get help.
Sean is seen walking with the girl when Nicky and an associate find him, beating him until he is hospitalized. Jimmy picked up the ransom money, and seeing Sean lying on the ground beaten, returns to the bar and kills Louie Downtown.
Huey tells Tommy he will intervene with Sal and that he will talk to Sal for Tommy.
The brothers are gathered at the hospital where Tommy takes a gun from Jimmy and Jenny reveals to Tommy that she had heard it was him and that was afraid he would die without ever knowing she loved him. Huey comes to the hospital after meeting with Sal. In the meeting he lets Sal know that Jimmy wouldn't be a lost cause. Huey tells Tommy that Jimmy has to go apologize to Sal and that he has to be willing to take a beating. Tommy realizes that Jimmy is going to be killed
Tommy calls Francis and has Jimmy taken into custody for the stolen truck, keeping him safe from Sal. He tries to leave and make the meeting with Sal only to be followed by Kevin. When he asks Kevin where he is going Kevin replies "wherever you are."
Tommy and Kevin go to Sal's bar and Joey is heard in the voiceover again stating that it was the moment that changed Jimmy's life. Joey tells the officers that it was Tommy who had stolen the car and was driving it when it ran over and shattered Jimmy's leg. Tommy kills both Sal and Huey, his only thought to protect his brother. But with Huey dead Tommy had just taken over the neighborhood.

The episode ends with Joey in the jail with the cops wrapping up his story only to be told by the cops that the bodies of Louis, Sal and Huey were not the bodies they had been asking about.
