Stumbling into the small apartment, that Kyungsoo called home, there wasn’t anything that could possibly daze the young man worse than what he felt right now. Nearly throwing the letter down on the coffee table in the middle of his living room, he collapsed backwards onto his couch. Without a coherent thought going on in his mind, there wasn’t anything that could make this situation feel real. Yet, the silver hue shone from before him was reassuring him that this was reality. It had really happened, he was assigned to a partner after a long wait. Kyungsoo brought his knee’s to his chest in a child like manner, shaking his head back and forth as he tried to reason the thoughts going on in his mind.

There was a strange relief that had rushed over Kyungsoo, it was strong yet puzzling. Although Kyungsoo didn’t wish to admit it out loud, there was a feeling of relief from the fact that he wasn’t going to be a sterile. Being a sterile wasn’t something that people should dislike but it was hard for Kyungsoo to accept that a sterile wouldn’t be able to have a child their entire life. The notion of parenthood was something that was brainwashed into every child since they were born. Videos of happy families were shown their whole lives even from when toddlers were old enough to speak. The idea of having a complete family was something that every citizen would dream about. Kyungsoo included.

Kyungsoo knew from a young age that he wanted to be a parent someday, even when friends would tease him over his nurturing behavior. Kyungsoo always has been someone who would go out of his way to help others, often heading over to Baekhyun’s place to cook and clean for his friend when he was too tired after his injections and procedures. So, the fact that he received the letter wasn’t the thing that was giving Kyungsoo such weird feelings. It was the fact that the letter had stated that he was going to be a carrier.

A carrier, just like Baekhyun. The simply thoughts that were flashing threw Kyungsoo‘s mind, throwing the young man’s feelings were shoved under a heavy veil of anxiety and fear. Kyungsoo had seen the procedures needed for a male carrier to successful bare a child, thanks to Baekhyun. The injections would cause Baekhyun to shake and sweat in his bed for hours, crying about how much his body ached and how it wouldn‘t stop. Kyungsoo could remember how Baekhyun had to receive an operation for an artificial uterus, and Kyungsoo could remember the fear as that damned uterus nearly killed Baekhyun in the process. It wasn’t something that was light hearted or joyful, it was frightening and Kyungsoo knew that it would be his turn soon.

Within a week, Kyungsoo would start getting those same injections and tests that Baekhyun had dealt with. He would meet this mysterious donor who he would be forced to be with the rest of his life. And worse, within a short period of time Kyungsoo would carry a child and birth it. A child that would be born not out of love or happiness, but simply because he and his donor could help populate the world again. It was sickening to think about, and even with all the pleasant thoughts that the government tried to push in his mind, Kyungsoo found the idea of carrying a child within his body to be grotesque and wrong. He wanted a family, but it never seemed to set in his mind that he might be the one carrying the child. And now, Kyungsoo knew for a fact that he would be thanks to that silver letter.

Relaxing on the couch, Kyungsoo knew that he needed to let Baekhyun know what just happened. Although Baekhyun might complain on occasion, he was still Kyungsoo’s hyung and the two were close as siblings. Baekhyun always brought a unique perceptive to things that Kyungsoo admired.

Leaning over to one of the armrests, he pressed one of the many buttons to activate the apartments automated intelligence system. Although he wasn’t as wealthy and rich as many other citizens thanks to his job and lack of college, he still had a system to his disposal. Kyungsoo believed that even the homeless would have a type of system issued by the government. It was standard for every citizen to have an automated system installed in their homes. With the press of a button, the system would act as either a computer, telephone, a news outlet, and a security system. There were more advanced models available but Kyungsoo didn’t mind the simple one he used.

‘System activated, please state your request.’ The monotone voice called out, a few lights flashing on the armrest.

"Send the following message to Byun Baekhyun’s home system: Baekhyun this is Kyungsoo. I’ve got some bad news. I got my letter today. I’m a carrier. Whenever you have time please come over. I… don’t know what to do. End of message, please send it with an urgent notice."

Kyungsoo knew that the message would be sent to Baekhyun without any problems, since that was just the way that these systems worked. The second that Baekhyun got home he would see any module around his place flashing to let him know about the message it had. Feeling a little bit better now that Baekhyun would know about this horrible situation, Kyungsoo couldn’t help but lie backwards on the coach and close his eyes. The image of that silver envelope seemed to flash behind his eyes constantly, haunting him constantly. As overwhelming as these thoughts were, the busy day at work overpowered his brain as he finally fell sleep.

It was hazy, everything happening too fast and yet slowly. Kyungsoo’s eyes opened wide as he tried to focus on the situation happened. Metal restraints were around his wrists and ankles, forcing his legs wide open as he lied naked on a metal examining table. He wasn’t anywhere that he knew, but something inside of Kyungsoo told him that it wasn’t a doctor office. It felt to different to be that location. Standing near the door was a figure unknown to Kyungsoo, his face hidden by the shadows from the room. As much as Kyungsoo would struggle, he couldn’t get his arms or legs free. Kyungsoo was trapped as the figure moved slowly towards him.

"What the hell is going on, let me go this instant!" Kyungsoo screamed while jerking wildly trying to break free, but the figured continued to move towards him with a twisted expression contorting that dark face. Kyungsoo could only see a wicked smile on his face, the white of his teeth standing out from the rest of him. As the figure moved next to Kyungsoo, staring down at him with that unsettling smile.

"Kyungsoo, what are you talking about? You shouldn’t be yelling, it’s not good for the baby." The figure spoke, his hand moving down to rest on Kyungsoo’s stomach.

Baby? What was this stranger talking about? Kyungsoo looking down at his body, his breath was caught as he stared at the distended flesh. Where there was normally a thin and flat stomach, something very different was there now. Instead his skin was stretched to an amount that didn’t look normal, faint red groves cutting into his skin in a horrifying manner. This was what he meant, this was where there was a child residing under the skin.

"No, no, no. What is happening to me?" Kyungsoo’s voice cracked, his voice breaking as he struggled even more know. The man seemed to just laugh at Kyungsoo’s response, his fingers feeling like knives as he slowly touched Kyungsoo’s abdomen. Those talons moved in slow circles on his skin, going over his extended stomach.

"What is happening, your doing your duty to me as my carrier of course. Only fifty more years of this, it’s such a lovely relationship now isn’t it?" The man’s words sounded disgusting as he struggled even more.

"But, it looks like you need help having my baby. Let me be a good donor and do the duty." The man hissed as he leaned down to Kyungsoo, giving a long gaze at Kyungsoo’s stomach before pressing against it and causing screams to escape from Kyungsoo’s mouth. The pain was so intense that Kyungsoo felt the world go black, tears rolling down his face.

Bolting up from his couch, Kyungsoo found Baekhyun staring down at him with a worried look on his face. Baekhyun‘s hand was being tightly squeezed by Kyungsoo‘s own hand. Baekhyun wiped some sweat off of his friends check, "Kyungsoo, what were you dreaming. You were screaming like someone insulted your food."

Words were even able to come from Kyungsoo’s mouth as he collapsed into Baekhyun’s arms, squeezing his friend as he let himself cry for the first time in a long time. Kyungsoo tried to be reasonable and keep a grip over his emotions, but right now he couldn’t do it. That nightmare was horrifying, he didn’t want to do this. He didn’t want to be a carrier, he didn’t want to become a breeding stock, and he didn’t want a donor to take advantage of him. He couldn’t do this.

Baekhyun didn’t move a muscle, just holding his friend in an embrace that had been the opposite way a year ago. The low crying and soft whispers of it's 'going to be okay' filled the room for the remainder of the night.
