The Captain America thing.

It's a bit heavy handed, but it's quite an interesting way of exploring how America has tipped into fascism over the last 15 or so years, no?

A Captain America for the post-Patriot act era?

It could if it didn't contradict the previous exploration in Civil War ten years ago...

Also, it's just a stunt to take all the attention away from DC's Rebirth and it worked.

I'm sure there will be some explanation as to why it's not what it seems.

Ha, but yes, you're absolutely bang-on about that aren't you. :) Rebirth what? Rebirth who? Yeah, they played a blinder there didn't they.

Although someone on Twitter did make me realize that the MCU made a point of equating HYDRA with Nazis through the first season of Agents of SHIELD. Then, especially this past year or so, they started making HYDRA into more of an evil Illuminati that's spanned centuries...which backs up their claim that they have been planning this for a while. Then, they must have decided the Rebirth launch was the perfect time to finally do it.

They barely mentioned Nazis at all in AoS did they. Nor Peggy Carter for that matter. Just lots of evil Russians.

yes, i want to scream at people on the internet (not you) "YOU KNOW THIS ISNT WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE! YOU KNOW ITS GONNA GET FIXED BEFORE THE NEXT MOVIE THAT CAP IS IN!!" It's like they never read a comic book.

Yep, there will ~so~ be a twist so it's not what it seems. I mean. Obvious twist is obvious.

This is just the start of an agonizingly long process to reveal Cap is a triple agent....so very boring

It's funny how people are absolutely losing their effing minds about this, though

Yep, a triple agent, or not actually Cap, or mind control, or a Skrull, or something.

Amazing how big the comics must be now though, for people to care so much about it and be losing their shit.

The Nazi thing seems to have really hit a nerve. Captain America cannot be a secret Nazi. Which I must admit sort of begs the question, why not? If they've come up with an interesting story to tell in which he appears to be a secret bad guy, then... why are the Nazis suddenly off limits? I dunno.

From what I gather over on tumblr, the fact that they took a character who was created by two Jewish people that was created to punch Hitler in the face and turned him into a Nazi and *gasp* he was one all along, it's not only a kick in the teeth for the people who created him, but it's just a generally a dick move.

Even if they fix it, it seems like one of the most asinine things they could possibly do to a character anyways.

The comics really have nothing to do with the movies anyways, so them doing this won't have any impact on those.

Yeah, that about sums it up. Because it's not like creators' get their creations totally changed ALL THE TIME!

I also hate when people complain about Wanda and Pietro not being Jewish despite never observing any Jewish rites in the comics but where are the petitions for Kitty Pryde to have her religion in the films? She's a proud Jew in the comics! Despite the complaints about the last Fantastic Four, they did do right by Ben Grimm when they had that menorah on the mantelpiece...but no one ever mentions that either.

Supposedly, Marvel is full of anti-antisemitism now which I would think would be big news to Stan Lee. I think the only antisemitism going on currently...other than Ben Grimm's Denny's burger having bacon...is that no one likes Ike Perlmutter but they cant seem to be rid of him. Banishing him to television is the best they could do...which is why we can only have 1 or 2 female led shows at one time.

I think that's a fair thing ot be upset about if it is genuinely what it seems to be, but I think it so incredibly far fetched and unlikely that itis what it seems to be that, it's just something that people will have to wait and see if it's mind control, or not really Cap, or Cap pretending to play along to infiltrate them, or something along those lines.

I'm not sure what is happening with all these superheroes turning to fighting each other. First it was Superman vs Batman. WTF? Now a whole whack of superheroes are fighting each other over government regulation? This is sounding more like a campaign ad for Donald Trump. I seriously remain at arms length until this stuff shows up on free television. So I can't even comment.

IT's a fairly well worn trope in the superhero comic world, think up some unlikely reason to pitch one against the other. I think fans have always liked debating the old 'who would win in a fight' thing.
