2009, the Year of Not Much
In looking back on 2009, it seems to me to be the year I didn't do anything:
- I left the State of Maryland exactly twice: once for a few minutes in Delaware detouring around beach traffic, and once for a couple days off in Virginia. That's it. For a whole year. Those are also the only occasions I drove more than 50 miles one way for anything.
- I never left the Orioles' farm system either. One game each of Delmarva & Aberdeen, and 4-5 each of Bowie and Frederick. I used to go to 100 plus games a year, now I barely managed 10. Stayed until the end of only 2. Did not attend a single hockey, football or other sporting event all year.
- I saw exactly 2 movies: 'Help!', at the Senator, and 'State of Play', at a second run theatre. I didn't set foot in a first run theatre the entire year.
- Went to exactly 2 concerts: a house concert and Springsteen. That's it. Not even a bar show.
- Did only the 'Big 3' conventions - Farpoint, Balticon and Shore Leave.
- Just 5 craft shows, all Christmas, and I wish I hadn't done the 5th one. It was pointless.
- Only 2.5 days of vacationing, the Virginia trip. Then again, that's the first time in over 5 years I had *any* vacation.
- Did a grand total of 9 pieces of art. Not long ago, I did that in a month. 2 winged dogs, 5 NCIS, 2 Whoniverse. That's it.
- No weddings, no birthday parties (not even the boys), no funerals (friends died, but there were no funerals), one wake, only 2 general parties. I didn't go out much.
- Two game nights. Usually Dave comes over at least once a month, but he only made it twice this year.
- Read the first couple stories of 'The Quality of Leadership' and a preview book terri_osborne gave me. That's it for the fiction reading. Not much more on the non-fiction. And no fanfiction.
- Listened to a lot of music and watched a lot of video/TV, but still feel like I'm way, way behind on both.
- Stopped my afternoon walks in March and never restarted. No exercise, no podcasts.
This is the depressing list I came up with off the top of my head. Obviously, there is work to be done in 2010. Hoo boy, a lot of work.
