F*** Cancer

I guess I didn't write about this recently, but a good college friend of Joy's was diagnosed with brain cancer last fall. He passed away a couple of days ago. Joy did manage to get down to DC to visit him and his family in November -- we were worried he wouldn't make it 'till December. I didn't have the privilege of really knowing him, but the times I did meet him (in the "Toys on the Floor Tour '04" trip[1], and at Joy and my wedding), he was clearly a great guy. Joy's visit was really tough, as at that point the cancer was f***ing with his brain, but he did still recognize her and I hope that it was good for him. It was good for his wife and kids. The funeral is today, and Joy can't make it to DC. Joy's friend was a great guy, doing things which made a difference in the world, raising two kids (who are now teens), and now he's gone. F*** cancer.

[1] This was a trip Joy and I took to the DC area in 2003. We named it that because when we spoke to the families we wanted to visit, all of them basically said, "We'd love to have you visit, but the kid(s) are young, and things are a bit crazy - toys on the floor..." Why '04? Well, '03 doesn't rhyme. So technically it was "Toys on the Floor Tour '04 (minus one)".
