A progression: 1) making a selection in GIMP renders drop-down menus and new windows invisible, 2) making a selection in GIMP freezes the entire screen, 3) opening GIMP shuts off my backlight.
ALL I WANTED WAS A ZOMBIETACHI ICON, GODDAMMIT. Also want to be added back to the comm, but I don't want to pester the mods because they're really swamped. Blargh!
