That was okay. Man, I've been feeling so unenthusiastic by Doctor Who lately. I think at some point I need to re-watch Amy's Choice when I'm not crying over hockey into a tub of ice cream. (Speaking of hockey, I still haven't checked today's score because I know it was not good and I wish to feel happy for a little longer. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK. DO NOT TELL ME. ACTUALLY, FORGET I EVEN MENTIONED IT. HOCKEY DOES NOT EXIST.)
-The most intriguing part was the Doctor waving to future Amy 'n Rory at the beginning. But it was also really baffling because what... were... they doing there? And I kept thinking that there would be some point to future Amy 'n Rory showing up and then... there was not. I guess it's part of the season arc, but I still found the Doctor's "OH OK LET'S JUST CHECK OUT A DRILL, THIS IS NOT STRANGE AT ALL" to be kind of weird and distracting.
-There was a lot of talking and plot set-up in this one. It was sort of boring.... though not quite as boring as Daleks in Manhattan, so well done there, Chibnall. But Daleks in Manhattan also had David Tennant getting his angst groove on and this helps my interest levels a great deal when the plot gets slow.
-I liked that scientist woman person who joined the Doctor at the end though
_thirty2flavors and I agreed that she could only be more marked to die if she randomly made out with him. lol, sry2say scientist woman.
-So the Old Dude is turning into a... Silurian due to being tongued by it? Or something? Well okay, then.
-Amy continued to... not endear herself to me when she spent the first 10 minutes whining about not being in Rio. Then... she spent the rest of the episode being kidnapped and unconscious so the first bit was what stayed with me. Poor Amy. Hopefully she will do something super cool next week.
-I am very fond of Rory - I like that he takes things in stride even when he has a bit of a "???" reaction and that he's willing to challenge the Doctor. (LOL at his line about the sonic screwdriver not working on wood). Rory feels more like a RTD era companion to me - very much that ordinary person caught up in larger-than-life events and making brave choices. I think the "ordinary person out on an adventure" is a theme that happens to really resonate with me. I could imagine being the Rory on an adventure with the Doctor whereas a lot of Amy's arc is baffling and frustrating me. Man I need a Rory icon, how do I not have this yet.
-So the Silurians are an Old School villains? LOL okay then. I do not like them as much as the Sontarans, but the idea is kind of interesting... hopefully Chibnall will payoff on the setup next week.
