It seems I mostly get to see my family for funerals these days. It must be part of being middle-aged. Yesterday was the funeral of my brother-in-law's mother, who was very much a part of our extended family. A sad day, but also a happy time as well as we all got together and remembered good times. In the evening a group of us - my sister and brother-in-law and their three children, my older brother, my mother and I - all got together for an indifferent Mexican meal and had a lovely time catching up. This morning my older brother and I met up for coffee and caught up on all the news.
I'm trying to concentrate on writing my third book, but seem to have spent most of my time rewriting the prologue about 87 times. Also, I've read some very good books recently, most notably Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go, which is stunningly good and very moving, as well as Dorothy L Sayers' Busman's Honeymoon, which is one of the most gorgeously romantic books I have ever read.
It's just occurred to me that it's exactly a month until I take my mother off on our roadtrip around Arizona. I've just added two nights on the Vegas Strip to our itinerary, and we are both very excited about that.
