So How's Life?

Great in all aspects, except the job area.
It turns out that none of the print shops within a 30 minute radius are hiring pre-press. At least, none of the ones with half respectable websites. The rest I could try, but so far the majority are nonexistant and the minority are tiny ye olden printe shoppes with nary a computer in sight. I've emailed most every place my resume (I was going in person, but with the remaining places all scattered far and wide I decided I was better not making trips out to each). Got responses from three or four of... like 20 I guess. Two wanted to know if I was interested in doing print sales. No, thanks.
I wandered into a frame shop and asked the owner how one gets into framing as a career. Unfortunately a customer walked in (fortunate for the owner) so I had to leave without finishing my conversation. He was mentioning how he had trained people from scratch before. I will stop by the next time I have a chance and leave a resume with him.
So while still hunting, I am working at Staples. It isn't great. I am making half what I was making before to do 5 times the work and deal with 10 times the stress. And barely scraping by at 37 hours next week means I will need a second job regardless. The workplace itself is pleasant enough and the coworkers are nice. When I'm there I feel okay about it. But when I am at home, all I can think about is how low I've sunk. I can't believe people make careers out of working retail. It makes me feel like I've hit a dead end, and I worry that I won't be able to crawl back into a respectable career.
Having to get up at dawn doesn't help much, either.
