spreading it around some more...

I think this video of a girl's choir singing about peace is just awesome. It's a re-write of John Lennon's "So This is Christmas", a tune I've always loved. And I like the sentiment that Bush and his dynasty can be over if enough people will it to be.

But even more than the video, I Love Lego's actions in all of this. Some people on both sides of the political divide are angry with them. The Bush supporters are pissed that they awarded the prize (and the $5000) to an anti-Bush family. The Left-leaning meadia is a mixture of being pissed that instead of saying outright that they back the message, they're claiming to never have seen the video or have known the lyrics of the song, and being pleased that the award has promoted the video.

See, here's the deal: Lego held an essay contest. It was for children to write about their own creativity. According to Lego, they judged (and saw) only the essays, not the material the kids referenced. I think that's a very skillfull and politic cop-out. I think that the representatives of Lego, a company with a long history of supporting humanitarian causes and maker of the bestselling toy in the world, decided to give the upper-level managment plausable deniabilty, then took an action that they knew would get exposure for the video while leaving the company clean. Because really, I don't think they could be so stupid as to have not know this would turn into a media storm. And all press is good press, right?

news, politics
