Yo dawg, I heard you like fandom, so I put a fandom in your fandom so you could meta while you meta

(Did I do that right? Pfft, I don't even entirely get that meme, but it kind of works with the latest SPN episode if you think about it. Or the whole "Supernatural books in Supernatural" concept in general.)

Been spending a good chunk of my time the past few days playing BioWare's new RPG, Dragon Age: Origins. It's pretty awesome--when I watched Daniel start his character, I had some reservations, but the origin story I chose was really intriguing and I love all the characters that can join you in your travels. Just like with Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect, the conversation choices and party influence is a big draw, helping to add replay value and a feeling of real participation. The graphics are pretty good, the music is decent if a bit more forgettable than ME's, and some of the story events are pretty freakin' epic. (Oh, and Claudia Black voices one of the main characters! Between this and Uncharted 2, she's been busy as far as popular video game voicework goes.) I'm a good 30-odd hours in; last I checked I'd explored about half of the world.

A bit annoyed, though, because I chose a male city-elf rogue as my character, and then was a good ways in when I discovered that the female-only guy love interest was really funny, sweet and all-around adorable. <3 I like him even better than Kaidan, I think. (It helps that *his* name is one of my all time favorites, instead of the exact opposite with Kaidan, ironically enough. It was fun developing the relationship with him in Mass Effect, but that kind of trendy, weirdly spelled name is a major turn-off for me. :p At least he wasn't whiny like Carth, though...urrrgh. Even Raphael Sbarge's sexy voice couldn't save that one. But I digress.) So yeah, next time I play it will be as a female human noble, I think. I like my elf a lot, though. Just a bit irritating that I'm kinda crushing on this one companion but can't do anything about it with this character. Ha. That's what I get for choosing to play as a guy when I'm actually a straight female, right?

Um, yeah, that's about it. Dragon Age owns my life right now. May ramble about it some more later. For now though...the obligatory Supernatural episode report?

Pfft, I don't even know if any SPN fans on my flist even read these, but I'm going to ramble about it anyway. So, this episode. I think it'd be either more amusing, more embarrassing, or a mixture of both if I were involved in the fandom to a greater extent. Mainly I just watch the show, get a vague sense of the fan reaction and read the odd fic I can find that's not blatant Sam/Dean. Anyway, from what I do know of the fandom, it was still pretty hilarious. Loved the nitpicking fan and Becky's "if you don't like the books, don't read them" (don't like, don't watch XD) response, and the cosplay and general fourth wall breaking demolishing. And it was a good old-fashioned ghost!episode. With creepy kids. Awesome. Other random observations and comments:

- Fake!Sam&Dean were great in general. Them actually putting Dean's own life in perspective for him, the revelation of their relationship and Dean's awkward reaction to it, their attempts to be just like Sam and Dean and the problems they ran into... (AKA, grave digging is hard! Also, Dean makes using a lighter look effortless.)
- Becky's switch to crushing on Chuck. "Like a monkey on the sun, it was too hot to live"...I mean, what? Amazing.
- In the preview for next episode, it looks like Jo and Dean kiss. Apparently. I missed it, but the ONTD SPN party thread was flipping out about it. Why? Because she's like a little sister to Dean. Let that sink in for a minute. The fandom's having a meltdown about Dean and Jo together because it's *like* incest. This is the same fandom where approximately 70%+ of the fans support an ACTUAL INCESTUOUS PAIRING. Seriously. I am way too amused by this.
- "It's not really jumping the shark if you never come down." Oh, Chuck.

oh fandom, dragon age, supernatural, mass effect, gaming
