Golden Triangle Quilt Guild
January Minutes
1/8/2009
24 members attending
Called to order by Charlotte.
Old Business:
*Treasurers report was given ($1300 in account)
*Minutes approved as written
*Workday for Charity quilts will be held at the Sportsplex January 10. The Oktibbeha County Sherriff’s office has requested a lap sized quilt to be donated to ride in each squad car (25 cars). We hope to have 25 quilts ready to be delivered by the February meeting.
*Guild is still working on a T-shirt idea; more will be presented in February.
*Retreat April 24-25 or May 30-31 probably will be held at Dorman Lake for a nominal fee.
New Business:
*Preparation for the upcoming year included a calendar passed out to the members, a collection of the dues for the 2009 year, request to sign up on a committee list and refreshments list. The office of devotional chair was removed from our bylaws. Door prizes will be drawn from members who put their names in the hat at the beginning of each meeting rather than from the entire membership list.
*We have investigated running a booth at this year’s Cotton District Arts Festival April 18 in Starkville. The fee to have a booth will cost $65 and would allow us to sell small projects to the public, as well as serving as a showcase for our work, and a recruiting tool for our guild. Request was made that all members should make a few small somethings to sell at the booth and if possible please volunteer to sit and man the booth or help with set-up or break down. If you are making something from an existing pattern, please be careful of copyright.
*Dorinda Evans will teach a class on Jelly Roll Bargello on May 2 at the Sportsplex in Starkville. Class will cost $25, and kits are available from Quilt Arts in Jackson for $40 in the colors of Jewel, Autumn, and Pastel.
*The rotary club quilt project that Marilyn spearheaded resulted in a donation of $150 for our guild. She hopes to have the quilt at the February meeting to show the group.
*Colleen has presented an UFO Challenge to the group. For each “Unfinished Object” you finish in the coming year she will put your name into a drawing for an opportunity to have one of your quilts beautifully quilted by her.
* A suggestion was made to save the UPC Codes from Hobbs batting for a reduction in price on batting used for Charity projects.
