(no subject)
three bottles of water and a few coffees later and all i wanted to do was go and pee! it was only the second song during cat power's set at the barbican but i couldn't take it anymore. i left my seat and ran out the side entrance and out into the hall. before the show it was filled with hundreds of people schmoozing and drinking wine but now all that was there was an usher at each door and the sound of chan's vocals coming from speakers seemingly everywhere i looked (even the restroom i peed in). it felt like she was giving me a private concert? it was really beautiful and her voice so clear. i had a bizarre interaction whilst peeing into the urinal when a boy entered, with both acknowleding how awesome it was to be pretty much alone in an empty 400 square foot hall but without saying anything? or something? we both had to wait until the end of a song to be allowed back in and it was all smiles until he joined a group of obnoxious fratboys shouting things like "you're like doing superfantastic!" & "way to go! woop.woop.".eurgh. anyway, she's obviously knon for being hit or miss in her live performances and she was bordering on being bratty and terrible during the middle of her set without the backup of the memphis band, especially when fiddling with her microphone... glad i went, i really didn't expect much but got a lot out of it in the end?
