this Billy swiped the paper from the front desk like he usually did; he liked to read and although the newspaper was a challenge for him, he liked to try and read it anyway. On the front page were Snake's picture and the article about the shoot out. He ran back to the bedroom and sat on his bed, laughing when he read the bit about Snake escaping and the search still being under way. The stupid cops would never catch Snake! Snake was way too smart and too fast and too brave. Even if they laced every bit of ground Snake could walk on with mines, Snake would still survive mostly unscathed! He cut out the mug shot type photo of Snake and glued it on the wall next to his bed, right under the pictures of he, Mac, and Kayhan at the zoo.
Billy rolled over on his bed, still thinking about Snake. He hoped Snake wasn’t hurt too bad, that the girl he was with wouldn’t have to sit on the electric chair. Those cops were so stupid; they should be using their time on actual bad guys, not Snake. His thoughts were interrupted when Luke and Danny came into the bedroom and picked him up off his bed, Luke holding him upside down by his ankles.
“I knew you’d be in here, half pint!” Luke announced, carrying him toward the playroom. Billy wiggled, demanding to be put down. The boys just laughed and pushed Billy in front of the television in the playroom. A news story about Snake was playing. The anchor declared in a heavy Brooklyn accent that he suspected Plissekn couldn’t last long what with the reported wounds and the fact that the APB forbid any hospitals in the state from treating him.
“Your hero’s gonna die, brat,” Danny laughed. Luke and Cooper exchanged high fives. The three boys shoved Billy back and forth between them.
“Yeah, half pint. I bet he’s already dead. Who’s gonna save you now? You’re gonna be here til you’re 18 like the rest of us!” Luke laughed and pushed Billy onto the floor. The boys kept laughing and walked away. Billy hugged his knees to his chest. What if Snake really was hurt? What if he was dead? He couldn’t be dead, not Snake. Stupid cops couldn’t even pick out a real bad guy. He hated cops more than ever right then and declared mentally that he’d never trust them if he could help it.
