[I am going to hate myself later, for picking a name with fucking accents. $20 says I give up on it and start spelling her name "Maire Luiseach" after like two weeks...]

HAY GUYS, this is Máire. Máire works at the royal stables as head equerry, which is really just a fancy way of saying she looks after your shit if you happen to have horses-in- ( Read more... )

For some reason you keep ending up with Lynea for CR. The Stern family's main investment is owning a trading company, which means quite a bit of draft horses to take care of!

Sure! I don't think she takes care of every horse that books in the royal stables, because omg, that would be a ton of work, but I'm sure she knows they're there, and at least takes the time to get a little familiar with each animal.

Trouble cases or injuries are her specialties though so if any of the draft horses got injured / tired / sick, she'd be totally on it. Which saves traders money, I suppose, since they're not having to buy new horses as often!

Mari loves animals and also used to be in Ireland for a while! She might get bothered. /o/

Awww, talk of Ireland will make her homesick, but I think she'll be really glad to talk to someone else who's been there. Her accent is recognizable, if they ever meet at the stables ...

Excellent. Mari will prolly bother her in slightly broken Gaelic in that case!

[[ too lazy to switch journals ... ]]

She'd be happy to teach her, if Mari's interested in really getting fluent.

Stables! They'd encounter each other there. Or maybe riding, if there's something good and scenic outside of the city. I have a feeling Máire takes hers out there regularly on off-days.

How do you think her affinity to animals would work with Others who are animals?

Really, really good question.

On a case-by-case basis ... I think it would really depend on how much of the animal she could detect in the Other, and how good they are (or how much effort they put into) hiding it. If she starts to notice animal traits she'd start being subtly accommodating but this would require me knowing a bit about the character's habits; I've seen some who, for example, sleep on the floor and turn in circles like a dog, or who don't like being in enclosed spaces, etc. It probably depends on how willing the other player is to play that affinity out; I don't want to force it on anyone per se.

Usually when she's calming down a really freaked out animal she's talking to it in her native language, and something about that probably has a bit of a magically calming affect. She's obviously got empathy on hand too if she needs to calm someone down from being all ROAR I'M A LION not that that would ever happen ahem cough.

what no never!!

Well, I think she would know this guy since he is a Royal Guard and had been for some time before the whole dying and undying business so he'd have seen her a bunch perhaps when accompanying the royal fam out and about?

It's tricky w/ this guy cuz he never had any obvious clues about his Otherness (who doesn't act like an offended cat/dbag once in their life?) until he came back - now he's obviously forced to be an extremely public Other. So if she would ever have a reason to use such a calming power on him she would know right away what to do sort of thing.

But I think for the most part he's just like 'oh that maire chick is neat def. a horse whisperer' but if she would obviously treat him differently post-outing in a way he would notice he will be like :|

Yeah definitely. She gets pretty bothered when people die, too, so I know she'd be very pleased to see him back, just on principle.

She would be curious to know what exactly happened to him and what it was like, but, if she can tell that's a taboo subject for him, it probably won't come up.
