"
I actually like those American rations!"
Oh, Rose. <3
I think I understand Gray Fox's dialogue now. 'Hurt me more.' Seeing that fight between Raiden & Vamp (in a decent resolution) gives me the impression death is the only thing that makes them feel alive. Theirs, or someone else's is the real question. Just plain fighting, I think, stimulus, response and pain.
Am I wrong, but should Snake be really pissed at Otacon, canoodling with the woman who contributed to the whole mess and his early death? Snake would never shout at anybody, but I really want to see that confrontation played out. Especially re: Sunny as well. Snake barely registers her presence, though (I think he's deliberately preventing himself from getting involved, it'd make it too hard to reconcile his impending death).
I'd be all for family WAFF post-story though. :)
Anyway. Act 3- felt strangely short, or I've been playing too much. The change of pace was awkward and boy, did I get sick of tailing that resistance member. Extraordinarily beautiful graphics though... I still can't believe it's rendered in real time. I also finally worked out how to hold people up, and some CQC so I had Snake pat down a guard (who giggled- a guard, not a FROG) and then grab his crotch. Awesome.
The train station reminded me very much of Half Life 2. Not that I've played much of it, but it felt v. similar. Also, Meryl is awesome. Misguided, but awesome.
"BTW, Jack's going to be ok!" ...seriously. I wish we'd actually meet this Dr Madnar. Perhaps that's in Rising. ;3
Then - Big Mama! I actually rather liked her, odd considering I didn't warm to the youthful EVA. The angel/religious imagery was v. odd (as was the use of those godawful painted posters 8D) but I found her interaction with Snake really touching.
Then- BIG BOSS IS A ZOMBIE AHAHAHA
It struck me that if Liquid is after Big Boss, and they want to thwart his plans, surely turning off Big Boss's life support would be the obvious answer?! I thought it was an appropriately mundane setting for the epic 'meeting' of Snake & BB. It underlined the theme of the sad truth behind legends really well, almost too subtly for it to be deliberate on Kojima's part. ;) Especially considering the next section.
AWESOME BIKE CHASE. WHOA. RENDERED IN REAL TIME, I was yelling WOOOO the whole time. That was pretty goddamn cool.
I had a much better time fighting Raging Raven, got her in one go with my trusty tranq sniper rifle. Those BB corps can run fast enough when they want to, outside of their suits! Of course, the L1 oogle her arse toggle totally ruined any dramatic effect they were going for.
The end to act 3 was... wow. Poor Big Mama. Love how she remains beautiful while dying despite having burned for longer than Snake who loses half his face. The fight between Liquid & Snake- very S&M, very homoerotic. From Liquid's side, anyway. In an insane sort of way.
...when there's an epic series I love, (or anything really) I find I can identify really easily the holes in the construction of themes, or points where they could be drawn to their maximum capacity. It might be egoism on my part, and if I ever did get my hands on something to edit, it might turn into a melodramatic mess. The thing about Metal Gear, though, is if I addressed all those parts... it wouldn't be Metal Gear anymore. The melodrama and absolute wackyness of it is what it is. It's very much a total vision. It doesn't mean we can't critique it, but the construction is so determined. It's such a fun ride. :D
Can't wait to go back to Shadow Moses.
