I will finally be able to make it. Dashi, that is. Ordered kombu, which isn't so hard to get...but also got bonito which is harder (for me) to find. Then I can make proper miso soup without relying on horrible dashi powder. Not that I like miso soup...but it's something that is worth acquiring a taste for and I think I'll try to. And dashi stock is used a lot in Asian cooking. Japanese, anyway...and I like some of their brothy stuff and lunch stuff so I want to try making a little more, though I'm not aiming for super authenticity. I've got rigidly Canadian tastes after all...I'll have to tailor other cuisines until they suit my family. But once you start, you get a broader sense of taste and eventually you might tolerate or even really like the authentic stuff, too. :)
I also ordered a buckwheat pillow since I've reeeeally got to start getting my stupid neck in order. We'll see how that goes.
You know what'd be great? (Impossible and weird but great!) If everything that is GOOD FOR YOU were free. You have to pay through the nose for anything BAD for you, and pay normal prices for things that are neutral...but everything good for you is free. Of course, who would make the judgement on those things...but I was just making a ridiculous wish there, not trying to make it logical :)
