Well I started off the morning by going into work. Yes, the world is still around and so therefore our restaurant finds it necessary to be there in case people are hungry. For the first 45 minutes that we were open the scene was as followed...
about ten servers and one host all sitting around in the back part of our restaurant doing various crossword puzzles, Soduku's and Word Search's. People would get out of their car and head near our entrance... We would wait wil baited breath to see if they were coming in our doors, or headed on to some other store in the mall. There was mixed emotion amongst us. Some figuring that we were there so we may as well be busy and make some money. Some others just content with being slow and doing nothing.
We finally got some tables, about 4 at one time...woah! I actually served two tables today with my sales totally $12.83. Yes folks, it was a BUSY day. Thank goodness we were open for that lady to come in and get her cup of soup and water. But she did tip me quite well so that was nice. It wasn't that hard of a day. Around 1:30 I was cut. I was also supposed to work at 4pm in the bar. Shanti was to come in around 5:30 and I had hoped that once she got there I could go home if we were slow. Then Carrie switched shifts with Shanti and ended up taking her shift for tonight. I asked if she wanted to just work in the bar alone and I'd see if our Manager was alright with it. Somehow I actually talked her into it. We're supposed to close early anyway, so I'm sure it won't be a big issue and she'll be fine. Plus this way she'll actually make some money, and I've been out since 1:30!
Anyway... that was my day. Yesterday I worked a double. I came home and my feet were just aching. Luckily pete came up to hang out and gave me a great foot massage. I just need tougher feet. Ever since I did the 3-day walk last year they have been very wussy. My feet got really beat up last year during that walk. It took days just for the swelling to go down so I could bend my toes.
I'm not sitting here with the Italy vs. Germany World Cup game on. I'm not that huge of a soccer fan, but I enjoy when it goes into a shootout. That is always a lot of fun. It's also nice to watch a sporting event where my pulse isn't racing and I'm not living and dying with every play. I can just enjoy nice shots and good blocks, etc...
Speaking of sports, two things happened yesterday in Detroit Sports. First, one that was coming for awhile, Steve Yzerman retired from the Red Wings. It was time, and we knew it was coming. The second was a bit more suprising... Ben Wallace accepted a deal from the Chicago Bulls. We thought he would be coming back to the Pistons to finish his career... but sometimes money speaks louder... plus he wants more defense... and Flip(our coach) can't give him that. He's just not that kind of guy. I wish Ben all the luck in the world... but now it will be interesting to see what happens with the Pistons next year. Who will take Ben's spot? McDyess? Probably, unless we can pick up someone else.
Ok, sorry to bore all of you that aren't into sports at all. I'm off to enjoy this beautiful day and maybe take a nap.
