THIS IS A BAD JOURNAL ENTRY, AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD.

This is more a nostalgia thing than a real entry, plus I don't know how many of you have even heard of what I'm going to talk about.

Toonami was finally laid to rest last night, and with it 11 years of broadcasting animation--Japanese and American--for Cartoon Network. While in later years, it had nothing especially astonishing to show (Naruto, Transformers Animated, Ben10), they still made it an incredibly cool looking block of cartoons. Especially with the 3D graphics, their robotic mascot Tom, and Steve Blum voicing the lovable robot (who has died and been ressurected).

I remember back in 1997 when it first started airing (I was 9 then, I think). Some of the first shows it ever started airing were Dubbed Anime. You would be hard pressed to find many American cartoons, except for the Powerpuff Girls. This was about the time that I was introduced to shows like Gundam Wing (gateway Yaoi drug for fangirls since 1995, lol), Tenchi Muyo, and Dragonball Z. Toonami has had so many good shows over these couple of years:

Outlaw Star
Samurai Jack
Megas XLR
Miyazaki Films
Tons of movies
Dragonball
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Gigantor
Robotech
Martian Successor
Dai-Guard
Yu Yu Hakusho
Cyborg 009
Rurouni Kenshin
G Gundam
Voltron
Cowboy Bebop

Online material:

Eyeshield 21
Hikaru no Go
Prince of Tennis
Zoids Genesis

Obviously, there's been some great shows over the years. I can't even tell you how many great American cartoons have been aired. There were even Midnight showings of Daft Punk's series Interstellar 555 for a good long time. Gorillaz first music video, Clint Eastwood, first premiered on Toonami. For me, the old days of Toonami, where it was a mesh of awesome, will be sorely missed.
