This is a great snippet from "Youth Walk Devotional Bilbe" (NIV, 1992)...
Think for a minute about what would happen to your body if its parts suddenly quit working together. A nerve decides, "Enough of this copperation. I want all the attention on me!" Suddenly your whole body is screaming with pain.
Then your heart turns to your eyes and says, "I bet I can beat faster than you can blink." And off they go!
With every indiividual part doing its own things, your body is soon in total chaos! You're incapable of functioning.
The same thing happens when memebers of the body of Christ compete instead of cooperate.
I am well-humored by this ridiculous illustration of what, unfortunatley, truly does happen in our Church. I like how this demonstration notes the plain silliness of church/ministry competition. May we laugh at our folly, and leave it a joke, never repeating it again. I imagine that when perfection comes and sorrow departs, the perfected will be very attuned to humor :D
Actual Scripture -
Your are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another. "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men? What after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants..." -1 Corinthians 3:3-5
