Well, the election has come and gone. Rachel is sick to death of me being very, very, very interested. She does vote of course, she's just not SUPER interested in politics. I'm okay with that.
Four more years? Well, I voted for Bush so I'm happy about it. Still, we've likely seen an unprecedented bloodbath of emotions, politics, convictions, fears and doubts, trust and distrust, all wrapped up in this election. All of that lead to a very strong voter turnout -- in an extremely close election, Bush still received more votes than any candidate for president EVER has. That's impressive, regardless of the outcome.
This election was a threefold disaster for the Democrats. They lost more seats in the House, lost more seats in the Senate and they lost the Presidential vote in both electoral and raw popular vote. The Democrats are now 100% crippled on the national level -- if the Republicans want something they get it, period.
The Republican Party has been given sufficient rope with which to hang itself. If they are not careful, they're going to see a rapid reversal of fortunes in the midterm election and in the next presidential election. They're destiny is in their own hands, and if they play their cards right they will contol the direction the United States takes for a long time to come. As many as 4 Supreme Court Justices will likely die and need replacing -- this win comes at a crucial time for all concerned parties. We will soon likely see an dramatic shift in how the Supreme Court does what it does. Abortion could very easily be made illegal or at the very least HEAVILY limited. Pornography online may soon see much stricter control -- something that SHOULD be obvious, yet has been repeatedly overturned by Supreme Court rulings. Absolutely anybody - age 2 or age 80 can get to pornography with ridiculous ease. We'll see how it all goes.
The War on Terror concerns me. I'm not sure whether we are taking the right course, but there is no doubt in my mind that something MUST be done.
