OK, lately, I've been going to school, doing work, and practicing. Basically, keeping myself busy, and trying to get back in the "swing of things." I don't know how much everyone knows now about what I'm doing and what life I lead, but I'm currently the Battery Caption head at South Pasadena High School, and I'm the Pit Caption head at Simi Valley High School. I have rehearsals for South Pasadena Monday and Wednesday nights, and Simi rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
In school, I am currently enrolled in: Harmony, University Chorus, Musicianship 3, Wind Symphony (including sectionals), Keyboarding 3 (piano), Physics of Music, Percussion Lessons, and a Latin Percussion class. So between all of those, it's hard to find time to practice. But I'm really excited about how much better I'm progressing.
On the weekends I drum with Hajime (bk 03 & 04, Cadets 04) and Jarrod (Cadets 02,03,04) to get help on Cadets technique and exercises for when I audition for them in November. Both Hajime and Jarrod are also doing BK this winter, so we'll drum for BK on Sundays before rehearsals.
Also, I have been moving around staying at different "victims'" houses while I've been going to school, because I had some trouble finding a place to live out and around school here in Northridge. Thank god I have a lot of friends who live out in this area that were willing to house me during this small transition. Good news though! I found a place finally. The owner, is a bit of a jerk and is lazy with getting all of my paperwork done, but other than that, everything this cool. I'm currently living in a town-house with two other people (not the owner, thank god) in Canoga Park. One of them is the nephew of the Band Director that I work with at Simi Valley High, and the other was a performance major at CSUN, who graduated last year. So they are pretty cool, but they come and go a lot. I'll have quite a bit of time by myself at night, for reflection and homework. If anyone wants to come and visit me, all you have to do is just give me a call, and we'll make plans (hopefully).
This weekend, I have several stuff planned. I'm going home Friday night after my last class to pick up some videos to get my traffic school out of the way. It's due before October 1st, so it's about time I get on it. After that, on Saturday, my Mom and Step Dad are going to help me move all of my belongs to my new pad. I'm pretty sure we'll get everything in one trip, and it's a big enough place to house all of my belongings. Sunday morning, I'm planning on going out and finally getting a computer that I have been needing for school; as well as a printer and a sound system for it. Then after I get that, I'm going home and grabbing all of the stuff I need for BK auditions, which are in the afternoon. I still have to call Hajime and Jarrod and see if they want to come down early and drum before the auditions though. So hopefully I'll get some practice time in before auditions. Then I'm back to my weekly cycle on Monday. Once I have my computer, I'll finally be able to do all of my experiments for my Physics of Music class I'm taking online. I can't seem to find time available for me, when the computer lab is open, to go do the experiments. So I talked to the teacher about it, and I'm sending the reports in as soon as I have my computer, and get it all done. Plus I'll get to write out some of the exercises that both Simi and South Pas need badly, to help them with their shows. I can't wait.
Yesterday, I went to sub for one of my other percussionist friends in the Wind Ensemble, cause he is going to be gone for two weeks for "reasons unknown." I showed up to Simi's rehearsal late because of it. But I'm the principal of the Wind Symphony, so I'm the first one they ask. So, I went to the rehearsal, and the principal of that group helped me out, which was cool.
TODAY, I went to school, and my Wind Symphony /Wind Ensemble Professor asked me if he could talk to me for a little bit after class. So, not thinking much about it, I thought he'd just want to tell me something that has to do with the percussion section (because I'm the principal percussionist). But after class I found him in his office, and he sat me down to ask me if I would like to be in the Wind Ensemble (the two unit UPPER ensemble). He said he was impressed with my playing capability, and my leadership skills and responsibility given to me in the Wind Symphony, so he'd like to see me do the Wind Ensemble. I was a little shocked, but flattered that he asked me. All I need to do is just talk to the Band Director about me changing the practice times for the Pit there, so I'll be able to take that class. Dr. Stoffel (the professor) wants me to at least do the October 7th concert, but would also like for me to do the whole semester. He let me know that this won't be in replacement of Wind Symphony, and that I'll still have to fulfill the Wind Symphony's terms and conditions. So we'll see how things work out, and what I can do to be able to participate in them both.
Well, I think that was enough information to catch everyone who actually reads my journal, up to date. But, hopefully I'll be keeping this up to date more often, now that I'm getting into the groove this semester. I'll be around. Give me a call if you'd like.
