[Point in time taken from canon] On the way to Heart Castle’s Ball.
[Background] Alice was a simple Outsider, pulled into another world by one of its inhabitants and forced to play the world’s “game”. Unlike Outsiders, the inhabitants of Wonderland do not have hearts that beat, but rather, have clocks in their place. And until she plays the game to its conclusion, she cannot return home. For her safety, Alice comes to live in the Clock Tower, the only neutral grounds in Wonderland, with the Clockmaker Julius Monrey. He describes to her the current state of Wonderland - war torn between three territories: the Hatter’s mansion, Heart Castle and the Amusement Park. Because of the constant fighting, it’s a very dangerous world to wander around in. But as long as she remained in the Clock Tower Plaza, the neutral area, she was safe. As an Outsider, Julius allows her to stay with him - for her safety and for his reputation’s sake. However, to return home, she is required to interact with the people of this world. And when the vial she drank fills again, she can return home.
While she is stuck in their world for the time being, Julius doesn’t bother to tell her many things. At first, it is because he feels she has no need to know, being an Outsider. And later, it is because he does not want to trouble her with the reality of their less-than-normal reality. While he refuses to tell her, she does start to piece things together, with a little nudge from Ace. And when she begins to question Julius again, he tells her the truth - that their hearts are simply clocks, and that he is the Mortician of their world. The Afterimages are shadow-like creatures that come to take away the clocks of those who have died and assist Julius in his work, as does Ace; who stops those who attempt to destroy the broken clocks. To destroy them is a huge crime in Wonderland; something that people do to prevent the clocks from being fixed and their friends from being reborn into new lives.
In Wonderland, there are ‘Those With Duties’, who have faces, characteristics, personalities, and presences, and those without, who have blank faces. Julius is one of those who has a prescribed role in Wonderland. He has a unique appearance and personality, although he is as easily replaced as one without. But he does have a job and things he is responsible for. That is why he fixes clocks, as Wonderland’s ‘Mortician’.
Julius is later confronted by Blood Dupre, who not too kindly requests Alice move in with him. Julius, rather than simply allowing Blood to take her away, defends her best interest and her will to choose where she herself wishes to live. But even though he was in great danger, he did nothing to harm Blood. Luckily, Ace stepped in and Blood left, but Julius took the confrontation to heart and later confronted Alice about it. He told her what happened and told her that she could leave. Instead, Alice took it to mean that he did not want her there. But in the last second she changed her mind and stood up for her desire to remain with him. The emotional outburst confused and left him rather speechless; showing how poorly he handles such situations. He hugs her, doing the only thing he can think of to make her stop crying, which he truly can’t handle.
Alice continues to fill the bottle and, amongst everything else, is invited to Heart Castle for a large Ball, mandatory for those with Roles in Wonderland. She decided at the last minute that she would rather not, and used her lack of wardrobe as an excuse to stay. But Julius decided that if he was required to suffer through the awful social gathering, that he was going to drag her down with him, and procured a suiting dress for her.
It is on the way to this party that I have taken him from.
[Personality] Wonderland is full of all types but they all share one common thread; the reality that their lives are inconsequential. Whether they are ‘Those With Duties’ or those without, they can easily be replaced if something were to happen to them. While there are many different feelings about that truth, all acknowledge that. Julius is no different. His feelings on the matter were, for the longest time, without question. His job was simply to fix the broken clocks that came into his office. Before Alice came to Wonderland, and shortly after he did, we see that he is a man of few words, who is curt and strict. Because of his job as the Clockmaker, he is naturally withdrawn from the rest of Wonderland. Most of them see him as a killer; an icon of the part of their reality that they hate the most - clocks. He is distant and cold and completely devoted to his work. Other than his best friend Ace, he keeps all the other inhabitants of Wonderland at a distance to some extent, both because of his job, and because of his own personal preference.
Above and beyond his workaholic nature, he is also known for his status as a hermit. His home is the only neutral space, and he is happy if he never has to leave it. For that, he is glad to have assistance with his work. However, he is happiest when left to his work on his own. He tends to take an aggressive stance when other people enter his home, especially unwelcomed. Which, as he keeps to himself most of the time and would not lightly invite anyone in, unwelcomed is how it usually happens. He hates crowds and social gatherings, and even friendly visits seem, to him, like a distraction, rather than a welcome reprieve.
Julius is often seen wearing a rather dead-pan and gloomy expression. He isn’t very good at showing or conveying his emotions. Before Alice came, there were many things he did not consider… about himself, about his feelings, about the world around him, and about the people around him as well. It’s clear that her presence changes him. Living with her, he slowly begins to see her as a sister-figure. He begins to question his work, and before she became aware of what he did, he begins to question it - showing a concern for what she would think of him once she knew the truth. The things he once thought nothing of, he began to think about in great detail. He began to question his best friend’s tactics in gathering so many clocks and killing the people who interfered. With that, there was a silent appreciation of life that began to grow. Even if he didn’t speak openly of it, she made him feel more strongly about his work and the value of people’s lives within their world.
He becomes more serious about his work. While she shows him the bright side of his duty, he also begins to hate it. It begins to truly sadden him to see so many broken clocks brought to him. He hates the way people treat them so poorly despite all the work he puts into fixing them. With Alice’s influence, he begins to see that their lives aren’t as insignificant as some treat them.
The longer Alice is with him, the more protective he becomes. He sees himself as something of a Guardian to her. He hates to see her cry, although he’s horrible at dealing with emotional situations. He tries not to show his vulnerability, although he becomes more and more open the longer he’s exposed to her. He does his best to advise her and keep her out of harm’s way. And while he does not support violence or senseless killing, because of the world he lives in, he has learned to use a gun in his own protection, although he hesitates to actually shoot, even in his own protection. In dangerous situations, he’s more likely to turn to Ace for his assistance and protection than to fight. He likes to remain neutral in all things when he can. And as such, he rarely connects to people, but when he does, those connections are rare and precious to him, even if he shows it rather poorly.
[Abilities] Julius knows how to operate a gun, although he is loathe to do so and hesitant to actually use it. And he knows a certain amount of mechanics, in his work as a Clockmaker. However, other than that, he has no particularly special abilities.
[Other important stuff] Hates roller coasters. Also, did I mention that he has a clock for a heart? Y u p.

[First Person]
[The man on the screen appears… slightly nervous. Also quite angry, though he suppresses it rather well. He manages a blank look, his narrowed eyes and tense lips the only signs of displeasure.]
I will only ask once. I assume whoever is involved can see this. And if you can hear me, I demand to know what this is about. There must be some reason, though I cannot imagine what you hope to accomplish with this...
[He remains very still throughout the entire feed. And there’s a pause before he can finish what he has to say. It seems he does have some idea as to why someone might try something like this.]
Even if you hinder me, you cannot stop my work. Another will take my place. So give up this foolishness and tell me where they are.
[‘They’ being the companions who disappeared on him. He assumes those involved probably know where they are as well.]
[Third Person] This was proving itself to be a night of many mistakes. In his lackluster enthusiasm for the Ball in question, he fell behind and failed to notice that he and Alice were allowing Ace, the only one with any eagerness, take the lead. Had it been anyone else, that would have been fine, but this was Ace they were allowing to lead them. Had he been any less involved in his displeasure at the situation, he surely wouldn’t have been foolish enough to allow Ace, the most directionally challenged man in all of Wonderland, to walk out front. Why did they listen to him? They finally had to ask, as darkness settled in. He let Alice do the honors, sighing heavily, as he sat upon a fallen over tree trunk, crossing his arms over his chest. While he wasn’t exactly eager to arrive at their destination, Julius had no desire to continue wandering hopelessly in the forest at Ace’s discretion.
He must have gotten lost in his thoughts for a moment. Did he doze off? When he opened his eyes, it was light again. Did the time of day change again? But… it wasn’t just that. The scenery had changed. As for his traveling companions, they were nowhere in sight. If Ace had somehow wandered off, it could be days before he found him again.
Julius could already feel the headache coming on.
Regardless, he rose to his feet and brushed off his jacket, only to feel a small lump in his pocket. Perhaps he half-expected it to be a watch, but instead, the object was something unlike anything he’d ever worked with before. Rather than think to use it or experiment with its use like some might, Julius wondered if he had the tools necessary to take it apart and figure it out on his own. He would prefer it if he could manage it on his own for multiple reasons. First of all, he wasn’t a people person. Secondly, in the world he had come from, good help was both hard to find and potentially expensive. And money wasn’t all they liked to take back home.
No. He’d much rather figure it out on his own.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] Julius is a character who, by nature, avoids interaction, and can do fairly easily in his world because of his role and his work. Taking those away and making interactions less avoidable will be interesting for him, on top of the current changes he will have to address on his feelings about Outsiders, himself and his world, while having a chance to experience a world very unlike his own and a lot of people which his world would all consider Outsiders.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] No meta-gaming. Because it’s always better to see the results of characters learning or being in the dark the proper way, and more interesting too. When people don’t do it that way it just gets difficult to work with and irritating because it’s really not realistic to have characters know everything a player can see. It just doesn’t work that way.
[Any questions?] Nope, I’ve got nothing.
