When logic and common sense collide
For the sake of argument, lets say you were in charge of voting procedures in a fledgling democracy. In Afghanistan for example. One of the big concerns obviously would be fraud. Being Afghanistan and fairly backwards technology speaking as well as having poor census data on it's citizens, it would be fairly easy to rig the voting. There are recent efforts along the lines of picture ID, so it makes perfect sense to require picture ID for voting, right? If you've followed along this far and find yourself thinking that all sounds logical then congrats, you have the exact same mentality that resulted in the picture beneath the cut:
Women in burqas, which intentionally cover distinguishing features, displaying picture IDs. It's nice to know America is exporting the bureaucratic bullshit ideal of mindlessly following the rules even when it leads to ridiculous self mockery.
The comedy of women in burqas with picture ID is what first made me laugh, but on looking at the picture I noticed something else. Burqas are designed to prevent women from showing their body, it's meant in part to reduce vanity and keep women from seducing men with their sexy looks or some such crap like that. Notice that in this picture each of the women who's hands you can clearly see have fingernail polish. That subtle ironic, yet very very human, conflict amuses me almost as much as photo id for people hiding their faces.
