Imagine an endless labyrinth of underground caves, caverns, tunnels, and mine shafts which extends to the very center of the world.
Steam-driven machines bigger than the Empire State Building bore through rock and stone while a bewildering number of crushers, blast furnaces, and smelters process the raw ore into rare and precious metals found nowhere on Earth. Wheels and gears as big as houses drive mysterious machines of immense size, forever rotating around each other in complex orbits like the Sun, Moon, and planets while mammoth pistons as big as redwood trees labor day and night, constantly descending into the pitch darkness only to rise into view once again.
Countless golems and automatons driven by everything from steam to clockwork devices assist with the endless work while everywhere are the Mine Faeries: Goblins, Dwarves, Knockers, Kobolds, Gnomes and other mythical inhabitants of the underground world.
Meanwhile, knights in steam-driven powered armor practice the art of war, armed with everything from strange lances equipped with alien crystals that fire laser beams to fluid-cooled plasma rifles. Sorcery, alchemy, and Victorian steam technology combine to create impossible devices, and ruling them all is a mad queen who has declared herself the Clockwork Empress--the ruler of all the realms below the Earth.
