The Mogwai a.k.a. Boba Fetus

If I can remember, I'm going to try to document random things about pregnancy. We found out we were pregnant on August 17th, when we were about halfway through the fourth week. Just started the sixth week yesterday. No morning sickness yet. Jodie was telling me it starts this week. Michelle said that with her first child, it was nine weeks in, and her second child: 12 weeks. So we'll see. I've been queasy a couple of times, and on Friday, I almost thought I would be sick, but it passed, I had breakfast, and the feeling never came back. I've had a couple of headaches and a couple of migraines that I just had to tough out because the only medicine that I can safely take is Tylenol, which doesn't do me any good. So I've been trying to keep myself hydrated and get plenty of rest.

I'd been asking, "Where's that fatigue I keep hearing about?" I started getting tired before 9:00 in the evening and would fall asleep by 10:00, but then I would be up at 6:00 or earlier, ready for the day. But last night, I was tired before 9:00, stayed up until maybe 9:45, and slept until 7:30 (waking up briefly a few times, mostly due to Mew wanting attention). So maybe the fatigue is kicking in.

Before we knew for sure that I was pregnant (but suspected it), I started diluting my coffee, as too much caffeine has been linked to miscarriages. I had been using one scoop of coffee per cup of water, drinking four cups worth a day. Then I did three scoops of coffee for four cups of water. Then I added more water. AJ's parents just helped us move into our new house over the weekend, and they gave me a Keurig coffeemaker as an early birthday present, so I've had one cup from there each day for the past few days. Until yesterday. Instead of coffee, I decided to go for a chai because when I woke up and thought about my daily routine, the Magic 8 Ball in my stomach told me that the outlook was not so good if I opted to for a cup of coffee. So I had my chai. Then I wanted more chai, but I didn't want to have too much caffeine. Thankfully, I thought ahead the day before and had purchased some decaffeinated Tazo Chai Tea mix.

Today, I'm gonna try to be completely decaffeinated. Just water and decaf chai. Maybe I'll brew some decaf sweet tea too.

Brian has offered to drink more coffee for me, to consume the amounts that I will not be drinking during this pregnancy. Maybe the craving for coffee will come back, but if not, that makes the caffeine habit easier to kick, which is a win.

Another win is that I just found out yesterday that pregnant women get somewhat of a pass with high cholesterol food. So guess who made herself some scrambled eggs this morning?

Oh! Cravings! Overall, I just have the urge to eat things I usually eat, but I've developed aversions to fizzy drinks (although I had a Pepsi one night and enjoyed it tremendously) and have what I call a low quota for fried foods... which is really sad since we're finally near a KFC. As for actual genuine cravings, my first was of peaches and cream oatmeal! 'Twas quite tasty. And for two days, I wanted ice cream. So we got Cold Stone last night. I know that what I was probably really craving was calcium, but I put the "yum" in calci-yum by getting a Like It size of the Birthday Cake Remix. It wasn't until after the creation was being created (how redundant) that we realized that they have cake batter yogurt, which I'll swap out for the ice cream next time we go. And I also found the brownie to be too filling, so maybe the yogurt, sprinkles, and chocolate syrup. Not as fun, but still tasty and 'tis healthier. To satisfy any other cravings like that though, we should probably buy some milk, as we're now out.

You may be wondering why we're calling it a mogwai. We've decided that that's what we'll call our kids. One friend calls her kids minions. I've also heard "nerds." We're going with mogwais. They're cute, they're cuddly, and they should not be fed after midnight.

34 weeks to go. 6 more weeks until we hear its heartbeat! Or perhaps their heartbeats.... since twins run on both sides of our families, and AJ's mom's parents were both twins. We'll see.
