my dad's home theater can beat up your dad

What is it with older adults who seem just utterly, utterly clueless when it comes to operating electronics? I mean, I understand that they didn't grow up with CD players, VCRs, or televisions with remotes and lots of buttons. But every machine uses the same symbols to represent certain functions! Every time I see one of my teachers give a quick, baffled look at a remote control or the front of a VCR during class, I can't help but shake my head. And be thankful that my dad is savy to the point of being obsessive when it comes to electronical things.

This is seriously what we do at my house. I know I have fascinated many guests with my nimble flipping of laserdiscs and ability to accurately navigate through the 5 or so remotes we use in the basement. And the sense of power I feel in being able to operate the craziness that my dad has set up with each television is great, it makes watching TV or movies into this huge production. Thus this is one of my favorite penny-arcade strips EVAR because I actually get what they are talking about lol. Even though that damned HDTV receiver has gotten the best of me because I haven't been living at home and pestering my dad about how to make the new components work.

(p.s. this is my absolute favorite penny-arcade: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2000/07/21 )
