I had all kinds of plans for the weekend, and in the way of plans, they all went away as soon as it hit. That's okay. I can't complain about the one I had.
Neko is made of awesome and fairy cakes with a hint of bourbon...
The season 8 stuff is a mixed bag, but there is a definite feel of a season happening, storylines developing, background stuff happening. I am enjoying it.
Have you read Fun Home? I have to admit, I thought of you often whilst reading it.
Bechdel wrote a biography in graphic novel form that recounts growing up with her remote and (she finds out after his suicide while she is at college) closeted homosexual father. I don't know what your relationship with your father is or was, but I couldn't help but see parallels there that are alien to me. Plus, I always recommend Bechdel's work.
I'll have to check that out sometime. Our relationship has alot of stress on it -- none of which has to do with the fact he's gay...not that it was a completely easy thing to accept at first.
Have you ever read "Persepolis"? It's also a bio done in graphic novel form by Marjane Strapi (i'm not sure if that's exactly spelled right) where she talks about growing up in Iran during the Islamic revolution and in a family that was against religious law. There's wonderful dipictions of her relationship to God as a child and her loss of faith as she gets older and witnesses these horrible things.
I didn't think the relationships were mirrored per se. Bechdel, for one, is an out lesbian. Her father's suicide followed mere weeks after she came out to her parents and much of the book details her learning to accept she is not responsible for his choice.
I love neko case. She has the best voice.
